Adding Extra Length When Booking Campsites

We have a 2019 Montana High Country 321MK and pull it with an F-350 DRW, long bed. The Montana is 35 feet and Ford is 22 feet. Even though we give campgrounds this information we too frequently end up with a site that is too short to comfortably park the truck once we unhitch. We were recently shoehorned into a site and four sites down was a Class C that could have had at least 2 in that site. Does anyone add a few feet to their rig when they are booking a campground and do you ever get called out on it?

Always.
We are 35' truck is 23'.
When looking for sites we look for 40-45' so there is enough room.

Only a VERY few times has that happened to us. We do mostly State Park camping, or at best, KOA camping for overnights. I staying at a brand new campground, before making reservations, I always call them and confirm my camper will fit the desired sites, especially if utilizing private campgrounds.

We have, on a couple occasion over the last 30 years of camping, unhitched and had to park the tow vehicle off the campsite. But those times were very, very rare.

In Indiana, our son will often come and stay with us for an overnight. Most state parks do not permit 2 vehicles on the site. He parks in the designated "overflow" parking. We've never had any issues with that.

If the future, if calling for a reservation, ask if the site will accommodate the camper AND the tow vehicle, or is parking on the grass or along the road acceptable?

Yea I just say I’m 40’ fiver. I use google earth a lot to look at places. Often can can see better spots and just sizes based on other rigs parked in the campground.

In Oregon when reserving a spot in the state parks they will list the length of the campsites which makes it easier to find the right spot.

For some reason my mind went a totally different direction when I saw the thread title! !

I know I am about 50' long hooked up so I use that through the reservation process. I also ask if there is room to park in the side, maybe off to one side a bit if I unhook. Google Earth helps a lot for that too.

For us it all depends on what the back side of the site behind the RV looks like. If there's no trees or other obstructions there I can hang the 12 ft overhang beyond the back of the site

I usually will look for longer site, but just slightly longer, you should be able to park at an angle with your truck.

Just recently we were looking for Campgrounds. One site we looked at (pictures on their website, and Google maps Satellite view) looked perfect. 53'.
Then we saw somewhere on the site
"Maximum combined lenght 40' ".
I'm guessing trees or the road in has some curves long rigs cannot navigate.
Just something else to keep in mind and watch out for.
For example, Babler State park west of St Louis. The older side has sites that are plenty long and 45⁰ back in. The problem is the turn around loop at the end of the road can only turn around a truck and 20' TT.
We had to back all the way out.
I'm terrible backing up.
We did eventually get into our site. We were the entertainment for the afternoon. Lol.
