Adding a Second A/C to a 2006 Montana 3295RKL

evening everyone, it’s a chilly 97 degrees outside today and with the way NC humidity will kick up soon, I think I need to explore options of adding a second ac above the bedroom. We have a 2006 Montana 3295rkl. Absolutely love it, stay in it for work outta town but pull it home when the family has a trip. I don’t know if it’s pre wired for a second ac, but the breaker box is up in the bathroom near where the second ac would be. Would it be as easy as removing that ceiling vent, running wires to the breaker box and installing the ac itself?

My 2007 3075RL was prewired for a 2nd A/C. If you have a small flat cover about the size of an electrical outlet near that vent, then yours is probably also prewired.

Hello, we added the Furion ChillCube to our Montana. The unit was placed in the ceiling vent. Our Montana was pre-wired for a 3rd unit. BTW, the ChillCube is awesome. Was in NOLA last week. It was 95 outside and 70 inside. Overnight, we got the rig down to 64 degrees.

My 2005 2955RL was pre-wired for a 2nd AC in the bedroom. I never installed one so I don't know if it worked. I seem to remember if you install one it has to be a dump type with its own controls as the existing thermostat doesn't do dual zones.

Carl is correct about the second air conditioner being a dump unit. We also had the 3295RK. We put the second unit in ourselves. Ours was not prewired so Denny did all the wiring himself. He is a journeyman electrician so unless you are familiar with electrical work and your rig is not prewired I would highly recommend to have a dealer install it. We witnessed a rig on fire while in Paducah KY and it was very unsettling to see. So be safe above all. Good luck with the installation and maybe you might get lucky and yours will be prewired.

My 2006 3000RK was prewired. Easy install after getting the new AC unit on the roof. As said by others it has to be a dump type.

We added a second A/C to our 2007 3000RK. It was done at a dealer since it was beyond my skill level at the time. We were prewired but wife had the great idea to have the dealer not power it from the AC distribution panel but to wire it to a heavy duty 20A extension cord that came out in the basement. I rerouted what the dealer did so the cord stored and exited the rig through the wet bay. This allowed us to plug the second A/C into a standard 110V outlet. We could run 2 A/C even if the pedestal only had 30A service. It also allowed us to plug the A/C in when visiting her mom in Florida. Ran the primary A/C off of a generator during the heat of the day.

We have a 2008, and it was prewired for the second AC. It is a dump, but has diverters on it to push the air outward towards the walls.

Options to consider include:

1. 13,500 BTU or 15,000 BTU. We have a 13,500 BTU in the bedroom and it does okay. I wished I had installed the 15,000 BTU, but this was during CoVID and they were not avl,
2. Low profile or standard. Since it is at the front of the trailer, you might want to consider a low profile - remember to get a measurement on height when the new unit is installed,
3. There is a 10,000 BTU DC AC Unit that I have been following o the forums. A consideration to switch to DC instead of AC, but then there are trade-offs there too!

I have a 2004 3295RK and it has a second A/C in the bedroom from the factory. I think the easiest place to look would be to pull the cover off off the panel and see if there is a loose or tagged wire labeled for a second A/C.

There may also be a box with a cover on it labeled for second A/C near the vent in the bedroom. If not, pull the trim ring off the vent and see if you can see anything in there.
