3/4 ton or 1 ton truck?

Yes, I'm for sure going gas just wondering if the GM 6.6 is up for the task or pursue the Ford 7.3. And yes, trying to get a 1 ton if at all possible. At this point my conclusion is that the 6.6 is up for the task (at least not any worse than my current truck), but it will holler up them hills (which I don't mind) and at times I may wish I had more power. Honestly the only reason I'm even considering the GM is because they're a bit more affordable than Ford apples to apples. Otherwise, I'd just go for more power.

Sorry I've hijacked this thread.

@ Saturn V, Yes, the 6.6 will treat you well, it's a prefer the Ford 7.3L will work also if you can find one, I had that in the 2022 Jayco Precept 36C motorhome, so if it was good in that you want have any problems, let us know what you decide.

Power wise there isn’t much difference in the 6.6 and the 7.3. Cost per mile between a diesel and a gasoline truck isn’t much difference either especially when you consider the cost of the diesel engine and the diesel fluid If the gasoline engine will do what you need go for the one that fits your needs.

Maybe, but I sure wouldn't want to tackle Alt-14a up the Big Horns with a large rig and a gasser! I think 10 miles of 10% grade.

Just to realign the conversation, this is about the 6.6L gasser and its capabilities towing over 13,000 lbs. The OP already has the 6.6L and I am considering one. This isn't about diesels. I personally don't want and am not considering one. Not sure about the OP. I don't think they are monitoring this thread anymore.

There is a saying, or the one that I have been hearing, is anything over 15K you want to use a diesel, but to me, a person can buy what they want to buy and live with how it tow.

I visit Colorado, Wyoming and Montana almost every year. If you travel mostly in the midwest and south or east, gas would perhaps be ok.
Can't imagine even thinking about towing a 16,500 GVWR fifth wheel with a 6.6L gasser . As you say if you stayed in the midwest . Towing where I do in the west ,no way would I put a gas engine thru that .

Ford’s 7.3 will come in a high powered version next year. 480+ HP and 500+ TQ with peak torque at about 2500 rpm. That is more torque and horsepower than diesels had just a few years ago. Of course it will loose 3.5 % for every 1000 feet of elevation but that’s still enough to get the job done without the engine screaming at 4000 rpm’s.
