There are hundreds of thousands visitor to Quartzite throughout the year. Unfortunately, not all of them practice the "Pack it in, then pack it out" rule. The results are large piles of trash left behind in the desert for others to deal with.

The Quartzsite Friends of the Sonoran Desert (Log into Facebook) is a local group from Quartzsite that tracks these trash piles and periodically schedules a clean up event. These cleanups ares a good opportunity to give back to the people of Quartzsite and the desert we love to enjoy each year.

They plan to schedule a cleanup sometime in the next two weeks. However, the actual date , location, and details have not been announced yet. I am watching their website and Facebook posts and when additional information is available, I will update this Thread. If you will be in the Circle when the event is scheduled, w, and the locals, would love to have you join us for a few hours to help in this effort.

We’ll see you next week. Hope you can fill it in on some time for the cleanup if we can will help.

The leader of the Friends of the Sonoran Desert just posted this update. We will have to see the exact date and who will still be around.
==============================
Just as a heads up I am going out with a couple of folks and a drone to mark a trail into the next trash pile we will be cleaning up. I hope to do the cleanup next week as the weather for the next 10 days or so will be beautiful. The cleanup is about 1/2 mile N/W of the corner of Kofa and Tyson. We will probably meet there. Stay tuned for the exact date. I hope to post the date by this friday. Hope to see you all out there!

OK We have a date! The organizer posted this last night.

The next cleanup is on Wednesday, January 21st. We will meet at 8AM at the corner of Tyson and Kofa. The cleanup will probably end about 11AM if we get as many people as we had at the last cleanup. We need trucks and trailers that can take a trip to the dump. We supply gloves, masks, tools, water, bags, and lots of fun. If you have a favorite pair of gloves, bring them.

For those of you who will still be here in the Circle and would like to participate, we will leave at 7:45 AM (I can't believe I am committing to getting up that early :oops: ) and caravan to the meeting place at Kofa Rd. and Tyson St. Tyson Rd is the first street you come to going into Quartzite, The fire station is on the left. Take a right on Tyson and go to the end, where it turns left and becomes Kofa Rd.

They will have gloves, water, trash bags, masks, and such if you don't have your own. Once again, it is an opportunity to give back to the desert and community of Quartzsite. Plus you will get to see parts of the desert you probably haven't seen before.

Here is a link to a video on the upcoming cleanup. It is a tad long, but if you forward to around 15 minutes or so in you can see the crap we will be facing. The route to the clean up site has been marked with flags to help find it. The meet up site appears to be a dirt turn off just short of Kofa on Tyson.

I just watched that video and it was unbelievable what some people do out there to try to ruin it for the rest of us!

I would be interested in some pics of the cleanup in action and maybe some before and after pics. Will watch Lady Ferns channel too to see if there are any follow ups.

The Friends of the Sonoran Desert Facebook page has pics and vids from today's cleanup.

One of the cleanup crew just released a You Tube video of the event. It covers the start to finish. The different portions are identified with time references. See how many of the 8 MOCers participating that you can find.
