For those that would like to take the guided tour of the Minuteman National Historic Site; the reservation window is now open; they take reservations 90 days out.
They only have two tours per day (1pm and 2pm) Tue-Sat. Each tour can only take six people. Cost is $15 for an adult. This is the busy tourist season and reservations go fast, within minutes. Each day between 0000 and 0030 MST (that is Midnight to 12:30) the computer releases the reservations for the tour in 90 days. I watched it a couple times and the reservations seem to come out about 20-25 minutes past midnight. Tonight, March 22, they will release reservations for Friday June 20 tours.
Take a look at the links below and pay attention to the tour safety restrictions to see if you want to do it.
If you want to reserve tickets, get on this website https://www.npsreservations.com/minuteman-missile/ before midnight mountain time. enter the date you want and start hitting the search button about every 20 seconds. If you filter for the date you want and "Philip" as the location, it will only show the Minuteman reservations. If you search for "any" location; a lot of other stuff will pop up. This is a central reservation system for the region.
If the pattern I saw continues, it will say "0 matches found" until about 20 minutes after midnight. Once the slots become available, quickly select how many you want and complete the transaction. Have your credit card ready; they are not yours until you pay for them.
If you do not take the guided tour, there is also a visitors center with a recorded audio tour. Reservations are only required to go down into the launch control facility.
There is also the South Dakota Air & Space museum at Ellsworth AFB; very near the Minuteman NHS. Their website says the indoor exhibits are closed so we may just get to look at the outdoor aircraft exhibits; maybe that will change before the rally. Our plan is to go early (we have tickets for Wed 6/18), visit the Air & Space museum then take the Minuteman NHS tour.
Since they only take six people on each tour, this will not work as a group activity; please make individual reservations.
