Has anyone replaced the shower enclosure? The shelves and seat take up allot of room. The 2024s up have a shower with the fold down seat and no shelves. I have already replaced the sliding shower doors with a retractable door. That did help but the shelves and seat really make the shower small.

Lots of stuff comes up…but you are likely going to need to find a new fiberglass base + ABS wall panels…possibly a 3-sided wall unit, more likely 3 separate wall panels. The new shower base/pan will need to have a curbed perimeter so that the panels flash over the curb. You would need to install in-wall blocking to support the new folding shower seat. The folding shower seat can be purchased at a big box store. You probably need to use a shower curtain and not try to fit the sliding glass doors into the rough opening.
You will need to cut the existing fiberglass shower up into small pieces in order to get it out.
This will be a big/expensive project. Based on my quick search…
The base will be $500 to $700
The wall panels will be $500 - $800
A Bobrick commercial shower seat is $500
Misc materials…I would allow $500.
~$2000 total if YOU do all the work. This will take lots of measuring and phone calls.
Maybe someone will know the answer to this question…are the fiberglass shower units set in place before the exterior walls go on in the factory? I think they are…so that means the only replacement would be to “stick-build” the new shower surround as I have described above…no way to get a UNIT into the bathroom. A “floppy” ABS 3-sided wall unit like the pic below might bend and fold enough to get it into the shower.
