2022 HC 295 tank heater

HC 295 is winterized and we'll be headed from CO to Dallas area to get our bedroom Schwintec slide replaced with a new Vroom slide. Plan to keep this 5er for quite a while so spending the $$ on the upgrade=hopefully no more slide problems.

That being said, planning to sleep in 295 with slides in and only use black tank with water poured from jugs until we get further south; headed for Galveston. We'll use coach heater and black tank heater while parked at friend's house along the way and use their facilities.

Does anyone know if I can use my 10 ga extension cord from house 110 outlet to operate the black tank heater? We've never used our tank heaters before and I don't know anything about them-don't camp in freezing weather.

Using a 10 gauge extension cord for auxiliary power will be fine.
Make sure it is plugged into a NON GFCI receptacle. RVs and household GFCI do not get along.

The tank heaters draw about 2.5A DC each.
Your furnace will draw about 14A DC when running.

Daryles, another question; at home we have plugged into an outside outlet that is a GFCI. We only use the power for the electric mouse repellants and helping keep batteries charged when cloudy or snowy in the winter.

I didn't know there were any issues: what would I be looking to avoid or what could go wrong.

Typically you read of stories of people plugging their rig (either 30A or 50A) into their house outside (or garage) GFCI via adapters and RV surge protector and the GFCI trips.
This is due to tiny (additive) current leakage of all the rigs 120vac devices. Once it exceeds the GFCI trip threshold, the GFCI will trip.
If yours works at home, good deal.
