Free photo software
I noticed in a posting by Steve Riegle that he uses Irfanview often, as do I. Just recently I was led to another free photo program that has many of the features (including cloning) that are available in PhotoShop Elements and Paint Shop Pro. The program is Photofiltre, and it is available for download at www.Photofiltre.com. I have downloaded it and use it often now instead of my Photoshop Elements. It is quite user friendly, and the download fairly fast, and it is virus free and ad free.

Thanks for the tip, Karl. I use PaintShop Pro for many things and also have Elements, although I never really learned it very well. I'll check out the link you provided as I'm always looking for new or better things. One thing I like about PaintShopPro and probably Elements, too, is the editing capability. Here's a picture of our two oldest granddaughters (a few years ago). Vicki wanted the people in the background removed, so that gave me opportunity to learn how to do that. The cloning you mentioned played a role in this. I reduced the quality in this picture significantly so it doesn't take too much space.

Well, you did as nicely in the granddaughter department as we did, Steve. And what a neat editing of their photo. Another thing for me to learn......

Good job, Steve, with the "clone" tool! Its hard to keep a steady hand/finger on the mouse or touchpad. (dang age!)

"Undo" button, Karl, "undo"! That's probably my most frequently used button. I learned not to do too much without first releasing the trackball button. Then if I mess up and have to Undo it only undoes (or is that undos?) to when I last pressed down on the button.

I notice that the "control" and "z" keys are worn on mine too! Thank goodness for undo and spellchecker also!

Another great "free" program is Picasa2 - available on Google. It is a great program for organizing digital photos.
