How do you prop open the new fridges for travel?
Hello all. I recently bought a 2021 3790 RD and am looking to find ways to prop open the fridge doors during storage or travel.
Any thoughts?

Storage is easy. On my older fridges there was a little tiny lever that you could use your thumb to push open and it would hold the door slightly open. The lever was on the inside edge of the door handle. If the new ones don't have that then I'd put a small piece of wood on the shelf that would keep the door slightly open. We've never moved a rig without stuff in the frig so I can't help you there. We've had to add magnetic strips to our 2017 to keep the frig door shut on rough roads.

We leave ours closed BUT we clean it good, dry it out good and take newspapers and crumble them up and stuff them into the open space of the frig and freezer and close the doors. The newspapers absorb any moisture that MIGHT build up or show up and we have not had any problems with mold or mildew build up at all and that's over the last 13 years of owning two Montana's. You can also put a small container of baking soda on one of the shelves to absorb any odors that might happen but we don't do that and everything has been fine.

On all of our previous travel trailers, we had a "conventional" RV gas-electric refrigerator and they came with little blue stops that fit in the door to hold the door in place so it wouldn't open or close, allowing air to circulate inside.a
Our current Montana has a residential refrigerator and, just like in your house if you are not using it, prop the door open so air can circulate. If you close them up, they stink after a short while and that stink is very hard to get rid of. So propping them open is what you have to do.
On our residential refrigerator, we had it at the dealership for a repair and they had it for about 6 weeks. I propped the doors open with a bath towel, so the doors would not shut. Then used a bit of tape between the doors to keep them from swing open.

I used to keep mine open after returning from a trip. When returning to the storage facility I went over a speed bump and the door fell off the hinge pin. I now dry it real good and then close it before traveling.

I only prop ours open when parked at the storage place. I also go to Dollar Tree and get the cheap Damp Rid containers with the charcoal filter and put one inside the fridge if it will be in storage more than a week or so.

When we put ours in storage at the end of the season, we clean all food residue and dry it REALLY good, and then close it. So far, knock on wood, we haven't had any issues with it stinking...

Storage or TRAVEL? Why would you want them open while going down the road?

Good point Theunz. In our old trailer, we would empty the fridge and prop it open during transport to reduce the mildew. Appreciate your comments.

All good ideas. You should not travel with the doors open. You typically don’t travel long enough for mold or mildew to form. For storage, the pool noodles, rolled up towels and the like all work great. The air needs to circulate to keep it dry and odor free.

We would not want fridge or freezer doors flapping around while we travel. In all our years of owning Rigs, we never heard of it.
Are you sure you do this?

I must be missing something, why would you want the doors open during travel. They should be closed and the fridge full for camping. Having them open would result in them hitting something and being damaged.
After I travel, when I want to leave it open it's only after it's received a good cleaning and then I just pull my drawers out, stand them up to dry out and use them to keep the doors propped open.

Sorry for the confusion. I only prop the doors open after I clean the fridge and drop it off at the storage yard.

Why would you travel with the fridge open? We always leave it closed and the switch in auto. Everything works as it should.

Hello all. Thank you for the comments. I would like to clarify my comment. I don’t travel with the fridge and freezer doors open.
I am a member of a private campsite. By travel, I meant moving my trailer from storage to my camping spot (about a couple hundred meters).
