Join us for Reno's Rib Cookoff, Sept. 2 - 5, 2005
We'll be attending the "Best in the West Nugget BBQ Rib Cook-off" this year in Reno, Nevada. It's a contest of 25 of the best professional rib cookers from across the USA competing for cash and trophies. The festivities are 9/1 to 9/5. See their website at: http://www.nuggetribcookoff.com
The park we have reservations (9/2 to 9/5) at is the Gold Ranch RV Park in Verdi located 10 miles west of Reno on Interstate 80. You can see their website at: http://www.goldranchrvcasino.com/rvpark.html
This is a great event with lots of ribs to eat, music and even a craft faire. If you are thinking of attending, make your reservations now to be assured of a site.
September is the month with the most popular events each weekend such as the "Best in the West Rib Cook-off", "Hot Air Balloon Races", "Reno Air Races (airplanes)" and "Street Vibrations" (motorcycles).
We hope to see more Montana owners there!

Hey... that is grrreat!!! Having another MOC member there will be a treat for us since we can't attend the Rally in Minden with the Montana.
Edit: Doug just got home from work and has issued a challenge to Roy (and anyone else who might come to the Rib Cook-off) to a rib eating contest. He says "no toolboy" from Oregon will out-eat him in ribs.
*LOL...... let the games begin!

Roy says he accepts the challenge and what sticks to Doug's beard does not count

And Colin Raye (my favorite country singer) will be there on the 2nd. I am excited. Hope to see ya all there. Paul and Kathi

Hey... that is great! Welcome Kathi & Paul. The more the merrier.
We also have the 2005 Lake Siskiyou Rally "party crashers" (Kevin & Denise) coming. They have another brand of RV , but I am trying to get them to sell and get a Montana.

Well this should be really fun. We can't make it to the Rally in Minden either. So we thought we would go for the Labor Day Meet. Ribs/Colin Raye/Friends/Montana's sounds like a party to us. See ya all there. Kathi

We wanted to share the information we received on "The Rib Village" at the Reno Best-in-the-West Rib Cook-off. It's a special area of covered tables that you have to "buy". No one is allowed into the Rib Village area without buying a table.
Tables for 8 people are sold for $575 and tables for 10 are sold for $718.75. It works out to $72 per person. Every person, including children who are inside the Rib Village must have their own seat.
Participants in the Rib Village receive:
All-you-can-eat-ribs from the 25 cookers
Fixins (side dishes)
Dessert
Budweiser beer
Kendall-Jackson wine
Coca-Cola products
Best place to view/listen to the live music from the main stage
What is not clear, is if this price is for one day, or for the whole 5 day event (we kind of think it's a one day price). I've sent back an inquiry to the Rib Village organizers.
If it's for the whole event.. *WOW* .. that's quite a bargain and would anyone else who is going to be at the event want to go in on a table with us? It'd be nice to have a covered area to be able to meet, rest, eat or watch the entertainment from.
If it turns out to be a "per day" charge, that's kinda steep. We don't know if we'd be interested, but considering all the food and the entertainment....... hmmmm, maybe.
We'll post the response from "The Rib Village" organizers as soon as we receive it.

I agree with you Margee. It sounds great if it is for more than one day, but it is kind of steep for a one-day deal. Keep us posted.

Just received email from the Rib Village Organizers. The table charge is a "per day" charge.
So I guess if you sat/ate/drank/walked-it-off about 4 or 5 times.... you'd have gotten your money's worth.
We'd have to put our bid in for Saturday or Sunday to get a full day.
Think about it and let me know. They'll be sending me something in the mail soon that will allow me to put a bid in for a table. If we have 8 people who want a table then I'll go ahead and return the bid.

Okay...we got in the mail today the card with the code to let us put a bid on a table in the Rib Village. Contact us ASAP via here or email (dandmontheroad@hotmail.com) if you are still game at $70 - $75 per person. We did have 8 people interested so we have enough to bid.
I will put in for Saturday and Sunday and we'll see which one we are awarded.

Update from Margee as she was leaving for the coast is that the price for the table is for 5-9 p.m. only. It looks like we will not put in a bid for a table.

Only about 44 days left until the Best in the West Rib Cook-off.
We are staying at the GoldRanch RV Park in space #62; ToolManRoy (Roy & Nancy) in space #61; PartyCrashers (Kevin & Denise) in space #60; and Kathi (Paul & Kathi) in space #56.
WhooHooo......what a great crew...

I think that is a little to steep for 4 hours of fun. How much food, drink, friends and Colin Raye can you get for $70........? Sorry, but we will be there. Maybe we can all just get together and have our own party????What do you think about that? Kathi

Kathi..... I didn't put a bid in for a table as we thought that was just way too high of a cost also. ToolManRoy and PartyCrashers were in agreement with that.
We could have a potluck dinner on one of the nights.... maybe Sunday? That would give us time to be at the event, hit the casinos, and for Doug to eat at the El Dorado buffet for dinner at least once.
I think BoomTown has all-you-can-eat-lobster on Friday or Saturday. I'll check into that and post what I find here.
(By the way.... PartyCrashers is my sister and brother-in-law. They own a "brand X" RV and came to the 2005 Lake Siskiyou Rally.)

Thanks Margee. We were warned by friends that we better check into the seafood buffet ahead of time. Roy has his mind set on the lobster. How about we forget about cooking while we are there?

Not cook?.... ... I might go thru a bit of withdrawals from lack of cooking, but nothing I can't handle! Doug really likes those buffets so I'll probably not get the chance to cook while there anyways.

Straight from Boomtown's website:
Silver Screen Buffet
All-you-can-eat Whole Maine Lobster, Steak and Seafood Buffet tops the menu on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. For a limited time, only $19.99 with FREE Player's Club card.
(I guess we all should check into these Player's Club Card. Boomtown is about 2 miles from GoldRanch RV Park)
