Happy Camper gets my vote. I drop some in prior to making the trip and add a few gallons of water. Cleans while driving

Blue Streak Unbelievable.
Check this out. It needs an easy installation but is worth it. I think that it's the best upgrade I did to our camper. Never a bad odor, constantly cleans the gaskets and valves, provides a nice powder scent, and leaves blue water in the bowl. When you flush, it adds just the right amount of chemical every time.

What problems are being solved?
I'm curious when people say they have no problems when they use a certain product. Are we talking mainly odor problems or are we also covering clogging issues, sensor issues and other problems that may occur?

Black Tank

We dump our tank every few days and flush it out clean so we use no chemicals of any kind in ours. When the RV is stacked in the RV Garage and we are only in it a one or two nights a week I wash out the tank every week or two in the summer time and monthly in the winter time but we never put chemicals in the tank. It can develop a smell in the summer time when the heat is running high and if it does I wash it as needed.
When we are traveling I will usually only unload the black tank when we reach a destination which normally can be reached in three to five nights. As you can tell I'm lazy and dragging out the sewer hose just to dump is not a high priority for me and I'm not a big fan of adding unneeded chemicals to the tank.
If you're determined to treat your tank with an additive be sure the chemical you use will NOT harm a septic system.

We have been using Pure Power Blue. Inexpensive (comparatively) and it works well in hotter areas; when we even use chemicals. Before we leave a campground we rinse our black water tanks if possible and only use a chemical when we are in one place longer than a week.

Drain the tank, add some water and half a cup of Dawn Dishwashing liquid. Go for a drive. Eliminates odors, cleans the sensors, and soaps up the inside of the tank.
Flushing the tank with plain water will do more good than anything though.

I have tried most of them on the market, and have yet to find one that doesn't work, with the exception of those that promise to clean the sensors. Just doesn't happen but they do control the odor. I have read where some of us have had the plastic on the pods fail to dissolve and jam the valves but I have not experienced it. I do flush the tank every four days, filling with water and flushing again 3-4 times. I do have a flush system in the black tank. With Happy Camper you have to sprinkle the powder in a filled bowl and then flush. I learned the hard way that if you just dump the measuring pod in the bowl, it congeals instantly into something just under the strength of concrete. It will flush but I assume it will take time to disperse. Sprinkle and it works like a charm.

I haven't found any chem that will work in the time that it would be in the tank. I dump once a week to 10 days.
How would I know I needed some chems?

Happy Camper works well for us when camped long term - dump ONCE a week and fill and flush several times with Calgon and Gain Laundry Detergent. Sensors on replacement tank are still working!

We use the eco-blend, Calgon and Aldi's laundry liquid. The Calgon softens the water so the soap works better at slickening up the tank walls and helps to keep the sensors clean.
Seems most people use chemicals for odors. We have never had odor issues and if anyone is, there is a problem with their system. This is a vented tank. Unlike many our sensors have always worked great, that is till we had an axle replaced this year. I'm thinking a sensor wire was pulled loose somewhere. I haven't found where yet.
