Red face New and Very Green!!

Just finished our inaugural 3 week trip with our "new to us" Mountaineer bunkhouse fifth wheel. What an experience. We've never done this before at all and are completely green, but our son has a MH and kept pushing us to get an RV so we could join them and the grandkids. We got the bunkhouse version so we would have a separate room and "powder room" (toilet) for the MIL (Great Grandma) who travels with us. That worked well, but it's about all that did.

Wow! If we could mess something up we did. Just a few of the adventures included dropping the trailer onto the truck, doing 3 loads of laundry when the tank only holds grey water for 2, a tire blowout, a new toilet, slides stuck halfway out, no lights, and oh so much more!

Hopefully we made all our mistakes the first time out, but never mind - we learned tons and we'll eventually be pros like the rest of you. As I write this the RV is in the shop getting put back together (surprisingly not too much serious stuff happened - it was a pretty sturdy vehicle)!.

Next stop is to see if there is still room at the Montana Owners Rally, and at the Safety and Educational Forum in Sept. I think we need the help

You have the right attitude to make it in rv ownership. It's all about enjoying life. Yeah, stuff will happen, you just need to learn from it and move on. If you don't have really good tires on the mountaineer yet, believe what the moc folks that have the sailun load range g tires are saying and eliminate one factor that will make your life miserable.

Welcome to the forum! If the tires on your rig came with it you need to check the dates on the back side of the tires. ST tires are only good for 5-7 years no matter how good they look. Also there are some brands to avoid. A sesrch of tire issues on here should give you the idea. You have the right attitude to succeed at this and have fun. If you went back and looked at some of my early posts it would prove my point.

Welcome to the forum. Great place to learn. Look into the Blue OX bed saver.

Welcome and hope the forum is helpful. Had a bedsaver on our Reese and have a Blue Ox on our Curt hitch. Lots of folks think they are a waste of money, but Murphy’s Law is a reality.

Unfortunately neither Blue ox or Butch make a bed saver any longer. Blue ox doesn't even put one on their new hitch. Go figure.

Hello Rangoon,

Welcome to the MOC family. There are still openings for the MOC Fall Rally. Signup for the rally ends August 1st. You will find all the information you need on this site under the heading ANNUAL MOC RALLIES (Current or Up Coming). If you have any additional questions you can post them there and someone will answer. Hopefully you will decide to attend and we will meet you in September!

Newbies

Well it sounds like everything is going normal for you as newbies😂 You just have to learn from the school of hard knocks when it comes to RVing. Our first trip out with our shiney brand new 2000 TT included a ripped off awning in a rogue wind storm, refrigerator quit, leak under the sink, ran over a tree stump and got stuck, and other things that I’m sure I forgot. Oh, and getting ourselves in to a pickle with a wrong turn on to a dead end road and nowhere to turn around. Ahhhh the memories😂😂 We laugh about it now😂 You will too someday.
