Straight thru Atlanta is the best except for 6:30AM - 9:30AM and 4PM - 6:30PM. Straight thru is really not bad. If you HAVE to hit it during those times take I-285 around to the East.

I agree with this EXCEPT for the last sentence. DO NOT go around the East side unless you want to sit in bumper-to-bumper stop & go traffic. Through the middle is best but if you don't want to do that TAKE THE WEST SIDE.

I drove a truck for 20 years which took me in and out of Atlanta HUNDREDS of times.

We live in Cobb County about 30 miles west of Atlanta. I-285 West is faster and less traffic.

I agree. In a car I go straight thru even during rush hour because almost no one uses the HOV lanes. With the rig it's west side only on I285 and even that won't be much fun.

I go through there a few times a year, but I am usually coming up 75 from FL and going out on 85 north, so I always use 285 east. Never have much of a problem unless it's evening rush hour, and then only on 85.

Hi

They got it correct. I pull 80,000 LBS and 75 ft in length rite thru the center on I75 at 11 am no delays.

I am however glad those are over. LOL

Several years ago we stopped going that direction when towing (Illinois to Florida). We began using alternate Alabama route down through Montgomery, get US Rt. 231 south to I-10, then over to I-75.

For us the benefits of this route included: not having to go through Atlanta, less elevations, and overall less traffic. The downside was that it did add another hour or more to the entire route but was worth it.

The problem with 285 on the East side is between I-75 on North side and I-85N on the East side. You are correct that the part you run is not normally a problem but that was not the area originally in question.
