Fun at Quartzsite
We got back to Casa Grande yesterday after having camped at Quartzsite Rally 9 nights and all worked well. We lived comfortably, and our daily functions took about 3/4 gal of gas for Honda 2000 generator to run 120vac tv, radio, microwave, and recharging the Montana's two 6volts golf car batteries, and we luxuriously used about 6 gal of water per day per person. With no modifications to the Montana and taking a little extra water and gas it looks like two people can easily dry camp for at least a week at a time without docking.

Been years since we spent time at quartzsite. Most folks would have a hard time understanding how several hundred thousand people could dry camp in the desert outside the q and what they would do there to occupy their time. Some day we shall return. John

Although I grew up as a farm boy and have spun wrenches while wiping off the grease for most all my life ... I don't think your and my definitions of "comfortable" have all the same words in them. I won't deny those of you who are annual "Q" attendees have a barrel of fun and take it in stride ... many of us just don't have that much Daniel Boone left in us. My other half doesn't even know who Boone was.

Diesel Guy, really? Boon docking with a Montana, satellite TV, furnace, vent fans, large screen TV, convection oven is hardly roughing it.

Garry it looks like you had some spare time if you calculated you usage... I agree with you on spending a week dry camping before needing any services. I was good meeting you in Qoartzsite and am sure we will see you two down the road sometime... As Dick has said we used everything we wanted to when dry camping but we do try to use the least amount of water we can... So no long showers or washing clothes...

Oh I knew I'd get some flak ... all I have to offer is " Didn't hurt" ! Just like the lively discussion on what a Montana is or isn't now ... we all have different solutions to what pleases us. As for exactly who is Boone ... I bet Mingo could tell us.

The last time we were in quartzsite was 2000, if I can trust those brain cells, and we were in a class c at the invite of a group of commercial bus converters. Pretty impressive to see 40 ft ex-greyhound buses parked off road in the sand. Then there were all thetrailers and fifth wheels parked all over. One of the Bus Nuts had a square post with a 50 amp outlet box and a water outlet mounted on it that he buried partially in the sand and then hooked up to his bus. Some people figured out that he must have gotten the only utility site in the area. Great fun . John
