Imperial Dam recreation area
We are set up for our 2nd winter Boondocking at the Imperial Dam LTVA, about 25 miles North of Yuma. If there are any more members in the area, please drop by. We are on Hurricane Ridge (2nd entrance) overlooking Senator Wash.

We are slowly on the way to this winters job at Imperial National Wildlife refuge just across the river from you. We'll try and get by, and/or, if you get to the refuge ask for Dick and Joyce.

There's usually a group that comes down there after the Rally at Q every year also.

We have not made our final choice as to either the Imperial LTVA or the La Posa LTVA for this winter...we are leaning towards Imperial based on recommendations but will decide once at the Q rally and will take a run down to Imperial to check it out...

Definitely worth the visit, especially if you like water. Senator Wash and Squaw Lake are great for fishing and boating of all kinds. Look for us if you come down

I do believe you could use both areas, LVTA and Imperial Dam for the same price. In reading pamphlets from the area south of Q... You pay $XXX.VV for 6 months and you have use of a lot of BLM land in the area. That gives you a place to dump and get water included in the price, from wherever you are.
Lunalonestar and DQDick. Can you offer some info here? We have not used it, but..we have checked it out a couple times.

There's been talk that things were possibly going to change, but last year you could buy a ticket that allowed you to camp in, I believe, 8 different areas.

We tried Imperial Dam for one winter. Found it warmer than Quartzsite but also a lot windier plus there was not much for vegetation around. It was also too far to buy small items as it is a 40 mile round trip to Yuma. It does have more dump station lanes then Quartzsite but the water stations weren't as convenient. I really did like the "Liberry".
We are back to Quartzsite again.

With regard to the shopping, you can use the shoppette the at the Proving Grounds if you run out of milk, bread, etc. they allow you to buy anything except, alcohol.. You just show ID at the gate and they give you a pass to go onto the base. You also have access to the library, laundromat, bowling alley, restaurant, and movie theatre with free movies each night. There is also free wifi.
The pass you buy at Q is valid at Imperial Dam, but remember if you have quads, we are actually in California, so helmets are required. Everyone warned us about the wind, but honestly, it is welcome most days to combat the heat. We don't leave our awning out if we are going to town but did not find it too much. The vegetation is sparse on the Mesa, but lots of trees and bushes around the reservoir and lake and for us it is the water access that is the bonus here.

We actually never noticed. Our RV home base, the old S&B and our store are all located where it's 40 miles or more to any town where you can buy socks or underwear not to mention all the other stuff other than food. So it's the same for us here as it ever is. In addition, Yuma has a great library and once you get a card you can get ebooks from them on the net without even going into town.
