Lippert Leveling System Reading 'Low Voltage'

When I am not plugged in and I attempt to lower the legs, the Lippert system stops working, making a whirring sound. The readout says 'low voltage'. When I plug into AC it works.

Do I have this wrong? I thought the system should operate off of battery as well?

Send a message via MSN to rmthelen
Yes, it does work off the battery also. Check your battery connections, voltage, etc.

Check your battery disconnect switch. If "Off" you are not charging the battery and this results in this problem (low voltage) among others.

The level up system sucks up the battery.

It is designed to operate off the battery. Sounds like your battery may be down, and when you plug in, the converter amps up your power. I had the same symptoms on ours the first time I used it, and found the battery was not at an adequate charge, sitting on the dealer lot.

Do you have one battery or two? We have never had that problem with two, but have heard of problems with only one battery.

We have not had any problems with just one battery after it was fully charged.

OK...so I the battery disconnect switch has an 'on' and an 'off' position. I have it in the 'on' position, thinking this means battery is on. But could I be wrong and it means the battery is in disconnect mode when the switch is on?

Seven years of Montana ownership and I can never remember which is which. If the light in the convenience center comes on, the switch is not engaged. if the light does not come on, it is.

On position means the battery is activated. Everything working. Off means deactivated except for slides, levelers. Our LCI works in either position. Off means no draw on the battery unless you push one of those switches.

Ours is wired the other way. On means the disconnect is on, off means the disconnect is off, at least on our rig.

Dick, you have me scratching my head now and we had the same unit as you. Tomorrow will have to do a sanity check and check our unit. Bottom line, turn your ceiling lights on, hit the battery switch, and when those lights go out, you are in the disconnect position.

The level up control panel has a function that indicates battery voltage.

Cycle thru the options on the control panel. If you are plugged in and the voltage is around 13.2-13.6 vdc the battery switch is positioned to charge the battery.

If the voltage is less than the above, flip the battery switch and re-check the voltage.

Wayne,

Easy way to figure it out, if the key can removed.... the power is off. The key will not come out if the power is on. Turn Right to turn on and left to turn off.

Semantics can cause confusion sometimes. John is correct. The off and on labels refer to power. So when you flip to Off, it means the disconnect is on. When you flip to on, the disconnect is off.

Thanks everyone. So, I called Keystone this morning and they informed me that there is a lot of confusion surrounding this. Uh...yeah!

The woman I spoke to answered immediately and sounded as if she had answered this question plenty of times before. I own a 2013 3750FL. So, I am not sure this applies to everybody but she told me that when I turn the battery disconnect switch to the on position, I have disconnected the battery and vice versa.

This would possibly explain The issue I'm having with the leveling system. I should know in a few days if this is an issue or not. Thanks for all your help anyway.

It upsets me that Montana gave me the wrong information. Following the advice here, the key does come out in the off position. In that position, without AC, the ceiling lights turn off. Turning the key right, to the on position, lights come back on.

Clearly the woman who answered my question was wrong. Anyone can be wrong but customer service ought to be certain before giving answers IMO.

Exactly the reason that I use my simple test with the convenience center light. Works every time and the results are easy to interpret!!

It is frustrating dealing with folks who have little product knowledge but still argue about it.
