Strange small water leak

I was going to wait until I had more data, but it's cold and I can't do anymore debug so I'll ask to see what others think.

During our first camping trip in our new Monty, we noticed that on occasions, we'd find a small amount of water in the floor in the toilet room of our 3402RL, less than a tablespoon, under the sink. I have not been able to cause this to happen while I was operating the handle on the sink faucet. I have not seen any pipes under the sink except the cold and hot water pipes, and drain. I can't conceive of a way the toilet could be spraying water under the sink, but who knows. When I find the water under the sink, I can feel a drop or two on the copper pipe coming from the faucet and maybe a drop on the PEX supply lines.

I can clean up the water and not find any water for hours, then the next time I look I see a few tablespoons of water. I don't see taking this in for repair until I can find the source of the leak.

Any ideas?

Some folks have reported a similar problem from the back flow preventer for the black tank flush that is located under there on many models. It's usually a black plastic piece on the white hose.

Is the back flow preventer located on the existing white supply line to the faucet? I'll look again when the snow stops failing and maybe take some pictures.

If your back flow preventer for the black tank rinse is located under the sink, you will see the pex lines for hot and cold water to the faucet as well as 2 other lines that go up to a black device...usually a red pex line to the input of the backflow and a white on the output that goes to the black tank rinse sprayer. It could be that your water connections to the faucet are loose and only need to be hand tight in most cases. On my 39800RE, my faucet will leak out the top of the faucet if it is pushed too far to the rear when turning it on. The water will come out from under the handle, flow down to the counter top and can just as easy flow under the faucet and down the lines to the cabinet shelf. I haven't tried to tighten the water valve cartridge that is located under the handle as one needs a special wrench to do that...which I haven't tried to find yet. It really sounds like this may be your issue as well. John

Have you tried to tighten the lines going to your faucets? I had a similar problem like that on one of ours. The fitting was snug but not tight.

I would check for a loose fitting. Especially because you say you notice wet tubing.

Condensation?? Just a guess. Check to see if any pipes/ water lines are sweating. My physics may be all wrong.

Had the same thing in our 3402RL, it was just loose fittings on the water lines, the back flow preventer is not located under the bathroom sink. Betting on loose fittings.

Good luck

The fitting on the faucet are some plastic screw-on type. They are at least finger tight. I'll have to use a wrench to get them any tighter. The connections on the PEX are crimp on, Should I try re-crimping??

I don't think my reply posted so I'll do it again. If you can see a bit of pipe between the crimp and the fitting, the crimp should be good.

There is so little water and it happens so infrequently, I'm afraid that I will just have to observe and play with it while camping for a while. I'll check all the connections before we leave on our next trip.

Hi

Some trailers the back flow preventer is under the sink but the OP has already stated that the only lines he can see are the hot and cold water.

A loose fitting may not leak unless there is pressure on the faucet handle like some folks do when partly filling a sink for some reason or the normal water pressure keeps the fitting from leaking and when the faucet is use the sudden change in pressure causes a momentary leek.

Like most of us think it is very probably a loose fitting. I would recommend tightening the fittings by hand you can damage the seal by over tightening with pliers or a wrench.

You might have to undo, then redo any connections and look for something crimped. While I try and tighten these connectors by hand, I will use a tool for extra tightening, but be careful NOT to overtighten. Don't forget to turn off the water supply (city or pump).

Otherwise while the water is running look for leaks at the time since leaks can have a tendency to show themselves with changes in water pressure occur like from turning on the water, hot or cold, or even flushing the toilet or using the kitched sink. I can understand your annoyance cuz water has a way of always showing up where it's not wanted.
