Wait for the next day.

I have a reputation for finishing what I start to the extreme and tonight some of my workmates got a great laugh out of it. I started out this morning to clean the battery terminals and add water to the battery on Joyce's car. When I started to take the terminal off it just fell apart. It was the original equipment and wasn't one solid piece but rather two small strips on the top and the bottom with a hole between them (must have saved them a dime a piece, sounds like the manufacture of our Monty). So since I had to drive to Yuma to get the parts I took the old battery just in case it didn't have much left and it turned out it didn't. We went to the grocery and out to eat and then to the parts store and when we returned clouds were over the sunset and it was getting dark. My neighbor said why don't you wait for the morning, but I pushed ahead. Got it all hooked up in the twilight and nothing happened. Tested the battery on the post and it was ok. On the terminals not much of anything. Took the terminals off to clean the posts, in case there was a protective coating, and when I took the negative off the whole post appeared to come up with it. After the initial shock I discovered that in the twilight I'd hooked the terminal to the battery post and left on the little black protective cap. There will be laughs at my expense here for days and richly deserved.

It must be an AZ thing.. My dad did the same thing to me when he changed the battery in my generator and it took me 5 month to notice.. He leaves in Quartzsite..

Yah I know, as I told them "I'm glad I could supply some comic relief".

Dick, those who never make mistakes have never done anything. By the way, I see you go out of your way to drive around Colorado.

Not really, in fact we want to make it there sometime. The problem is we have to summer in Kansas (to help daughter with the store), hit southeastern KS to visit other grandkids and have winter jobs in AZ, Joyce has a long time friend in Albuquerque we visit and we have to make the Rally in Goshen. Somehow time and time of year always plot against us.

Speaking of old eyes-- Ron I think you were looking a Alwins' map! I don't see any map on Dick's posting or are my eyes just not seeing it! Dick did the same thing with a battery I installed out at the farm on the compact. My brother will never let me live it down!

True enough, but by the time I pulled off the negative terminal to try and clean it it was dark and when I lifted the connector and the black part came to I thought the terminal was broken. All in all a very funny experience for the folks watching.

Had I been fortunate enough to be there, I would have been right there laughing with you, slapping my forehead and saying a few less than positive words. These are the memories that make life so fun...looking back of course!

What's really ironic is someone posted the picture below on another forum just a couple days before you made yours:

I wish I could say I've never done anything as obviously wrong, but I'd be lying. Fortunately, faulty memory keeps me from remembering what they were.
