Auto-switchover malady!

The auto-switchover is a great idea and should function well when used properly. Another bone-headed move this week resulted in a chilly (not cold night) in the camper. On a good note, a forty pound tank lasted us almost a full week for heating the camper in conjunction with a couple of space heaters. On the bad note, the second tank did not switchover because the tank operator (read that as me!) forgot to open the valve on the top of the tank! Duhhhh! Thank goodness for the space heaters!

I think the purpose of the automatic switchover is to prevent having to open the valve in the dead of night- Anyway, I always open the valve after installation so I can spray test for any leaks- JHMO- Don

Don,
Usually I have both valves open, seems since we got this new rig that anything I learned in the past has went sailing away to some land of forgotten knowledge. DW is even wondering what is going on!

Maybe we need a check list like we have for hitching up our rigs. Could post them inside the tank doors. Have instructions for removing the tank and then for putting it back in

Happens to the best of us. This is a good reminder to those of us who have forgotten.

It's all got something to do with a man named Murphy and some laws he wrote.

First item on my checklist I created 7 years ago was to "locate the checklist". Since I have not been able to complete the first item, I have done without and survived with much luck and success.

Great minds think alike! I forgot to open the valve when I refilled just last week. Doesn't take long to start looking for the problem when the temp out is 20 and the furnace won't come on.

Excitement over a new rig can and does cause the rememberer to fail on occasion. :-)

I guess it's my way of doing things. But, I keep second tank closed. Why, because I seem to forget to check my tanks, mostly because of recent back surgery. It's my way to ensure, I don't run out. Did that once, it was worse than sending my "DW" out at 3:00 am to turn on valve. Fat guys like it cold! Lol. Hope she does not read this post!...oh I carry an extra tank in my truck. I really don't want to run out!
