New 3400RL Owners
I thought I posted earlier but didn't see it, so I must have messed up. Terrie and I (and Magnum the wonder labrador) are the proud new owners of a Montana 3400RL. We already feel part of the family as our first drive with it we had a Montana passing the other direction wave at us. We moved up from a Rockwood TT. Last year we spent about 45 nights in our unit and it wasn't a comfortable place to relax in the evening. I think we went overboard, but it sure is nice for entertaining. Our 7 mo. old grandson crawled all over. We are glad to be members of the Owners Forum and owners of our new Montana. We look forward to meeting some of you at the rally in September.

The 3400rl is a wonderful unit. We have traveled in ours with 2 grandsons and a lab-- not one time did we feel cramped. Welcome to the forum. Happy traveling.

So glad to hear that you will attending the rally in Sept. We know that you will enjoy your Montana as much as we do ours. We will be fulltiming in just a few weeks. So many places to see in this wonderful country of ours.

Congratulation on the new 3400. See you at the rally. To find me just look for the smallest Montana with an old red truck. (Oh well)

Thanks for the welcome. After our first weekend, it is amazing how much room the 3400 has. We didn't want to wait for 3-4 months for one to be built, so we bought one off the lot that was pretty loaded. I think there were only five options that weren't included. Lots of electronics, which Terrie isn't as keen on as I am (gadget geek). We are looking forward to the rally. Rockwood/Forest River did not have a users group. I think deep down, many of us want to belong to a group. It reassures us that we made the right choice, etc. (My daughter and son-in-law are psychologists). We can now concentrate on spoiling our grandson. We have about 8 - 10 years before we can think about long term camping. Until then, we will have to enjoy short jaunts. Last year we went to Maine for our thirtieth wedding anniversary for 10 days and this year out through Yellowstone and Colorado for the 17 days. That is when we made the decision to go from TT to 5er. Plus, we have our Monty on a season site at Pearl Lake in So. Beloit, Wisconsin. Thanks again. Look forward to meeting other Monty owners.

Ron and Terrie, congrats on the new 3400, we just love ours. We are just down the street from Pearl Lake, very nice beach and pretty clear water, I completed by open water scuba dive test there. By the way it is in Illinois.

Hello....and WELCOME!
We've been in our 3400 since January 2....and love it. Moved from a 4-bedroom house to our rolling estate. Some adjustments, but are doing very well -- and have no regrets.
Have a great time at the rally. Maybe next year for us. We look forward to hearing about your Montana adventures.
And yes...being part of such a wonderful and supportive group is a very good thing.

Dealer has 2 models coming in...3380 and 3400. Has anyone thoroughly compared these units? We initially ordered the 3380 because it is the only model we've seen and we like the floor plan. Now the 3400 is catching our attention and dealer says we will have the option to choose when they both arrive any day now. Confused.! Any help out there?

I looked at the 3380 vs 3400, and we personally chose the 3400.
Reasons:
1. you cannot get to the refrigerator while traveling in the 3380. With the slides closed there is not enough room to squeeze thru.
2. The pantry of the 3380 is MUCH smaller than the 3400. I understand those wire baskets in the pantry won't hold any weight without tipping.
3. Some perfer the computer desk being out of the way of the TV, but we did not find that a problem. Granted, our 3400 has not arrived yet, but we felt it would not be a problem.
Those are the main reasons we ordered the 3400.

They're both terrific models. The 3400RL was a new model for 2004 and has been a really hot seller. The floorplans are available at www.keystone-montana.com , along with the weights, etc. Personally I think you wouldn't go wrong with either model.

Terrie and I bought our 3400RL after having a TT for a year and deciding we liked RVing but wanted room to relax in the evening. We have had as many as ten people in our 3400RL on a hot afternoon with no problem. It's spacious and a very liveable floor plan. Terrie really likes the kitchen, especially the pantry and counter space. It is nice when you're on the road to be able to pull over and get stuff out of the kitchen or use the facilities. But they make different floor plans because everyone has different tastes. The 3400RL is much more trailer than we were shopping for, but we're not sorry. Hope to see many of you at the rally.

We also compared the 3380 and the 3400 as well as the 3295 (which we had first spotted when Montana's first came out). It all depends on what you are looking for. We love the spaciousness of the 3400 living room - it is bigger than some small apartments. But since I work from home a lot, I had to have a desk for the computer. The "desk" in the 3380 is just a counter. No drawers and no overhead storage. Plus the kitchen storage is less. In the 3400 the TV is angled a bit so you have a nice view from chairs or couch. I sit at the computer and my husband watches TV from the far chair pulled out a bit so it doesn't hit the curtains. All works just fine. Our unit has all the options except dual pane windows and the fancy coating on the outside. We bought one the dealer had it stock. I wouldn't change a thing. But of course, as I said, it all depends on what your needs are. Either way you are going to have a great unit with many happy years of RVing. We've been researching this for years.
