First Trip - RVing - Montana Owners Club

I am planning our winter getaway. Leaving 10/15 heading south to Arkansas via Illinois. Using hwy 16 out of Branson will spend a week at Bull Shoals State Park. So are the roads good, any steep grades, etc.

Then on to Hot Springs area for a month.
Then on to Del Rio, TX for a couple of weeks and will end up at our daughter's in El Paso. Will stay at El Paso West RV Park for about a month.
Then on to Quartzsite, AZ to meet up w/son & family for a little Flea Marketing. Will also hit the Casino at Parker.

Then on to Yuma to meet up w/friends.
Before heading for home will stop in Sierra Vista, AZ and then on to Truth or Consequences, NM for a week or two.
Your suggestions & recommendations would be welcome. And we will look & do the head light thing for other Montanas.
Should be home about about April 1st.
In our previous winter getaways we rented kitchenettes. So this is going to be a really new adventure.
Busy packing & trying not to overload the trailer

I put 2 items in & hubby takes 3 out!
Won't have a pc w/me, but will report back on our experiences.

SOUNDS like a fabulous trip!! We did 13 weeks this Jan, Feb., March and April. Hope we can get out of here again this year. What a wonderful way to spend the winter.

Sounds like you have a good plan already but if this helps use it.

There is a real nice County operated Campground right on the Colorado river about 3 or 4 miles north of I-10 at Blythe, Cal which isn't too for from Quartzite. Friendly not too busy. I think everybody stops at the 1/2 price place a mile to the south of the County Park. Rates are about the same. But the 1/2 price place has them stacked wall to wall. I guess its just the first one that people see so they go on in.

I am curious when you took out your curtains what did you do to cover up the holes that the screws left around the bottom of the windows? I have having a heck of a time with the gold brackets breaking when someone sits in a dining room chair or recliner. I would like to take them out but the holes have me perplexed on what to do.

I did not have the curtains installed! Ordered the rig with day/night shades and curtains. TOLD them do not install those curtains, I want em, but don't put em up, and don't put up the rods either.

I also did the same with the headboard, delivered on the bed, never installed, now residing in the pole barn.

They use some white caulky type stuff to fill holes, I don't know the name or brand, or exact description. That is something we need to find out at the Rally if not before. Maybe someone going in for warranty work could ask their dealer???

Someone else mentioned to me that they were going to take the drapes down and leave part of the hardware up, to cover the holes, until we could find the name of the caulky stuff.

Will tell ya all, that if those drapes are not up, those day/night shades or venetian blinds better be hung straight, or it will show. That has been the ONLY bad part about not having the curtains.

I do not miss them, although I did put up some small curtain toppers in the bedroom made out of the fabric that matches the comforter I purchased. The comforter came with 2 pillow shams and a bed skirt. The bed skirt was sacrificed for curtain toppers.

I took some photos while we were at the Lake, and I hope to get them on the web page soon, had some things that had to be taken care of first. In fact, we have been home a week and there are still items in the Montana and van to unload and things that need to be done to the boat for storage. I'll see if I can get some of those photos up, specially the interior photos soon. I'll post when I do.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like you were the smart one to not have Keystone install the curtains. I was actually thinking I do like the look of the curtains but might just staple gun them to the wall on the bottoms. This way the chairs from the kitchen table and recliners wont break off the gold brackets anymore. I have at least 6 anchors in place already and will have to find a better way to secure the curtains to the wall with out brackets. Wish I was able to attend the ralley, but hope to next year. My wife has a sister living in Sierra Vista. We'll be in that area around Thanksgiving time. Haven't completed our plans yet. We have to be in El Centro, CA on December 28th as part of the advance staff for the Escapees RV Club Spring Escapade which takes place in March.

BTW, what is "the headlight thing?"

Back about a year ago or so. Someone suggested that when one Montana meets another it would be nice if there was a headlight flash by each.

Kind of a "Howdy Monty"

I like that idea. I'll be sure to "flash" when I meet another Montana. It sure is more positive than just a high five as you pass one another. I've tried that but most of the time I'm ignored.

If you meet us on the road, we'll be sure to "salute."

Try velco - curtain material to wall. I did this with another unit we had and it worked and I could still clean them. When our 3400 gets here I think I will do that first thing. We are not ordering, taking one the dealer has in stock. We like instant gratification! Waiting 2 weeks has killed us but we had to schedule our time for the switch over.

Well now why didn't I think of that?? Velcro? Thanks for the idea, would be alot nicer than my original plan. I am going to have to do something about those brackets on the bottoms. I dont know how many times the chairs is pulled out and knocks them out of the wall. This is going to be one of my winter projects.. Thanks again...

I note that you won't be having a pc ..no great loss as the caaess is poor .BUT>>>if email is the issue take a look at POCKETMAIL (WWW.POCKETMAIL .COM) WE HAVE USED OURS IN EASTERN CANADA, EAST ANS SOUTHERN US, bAHAMAS AND HAD A FRIEND SUCCESSFULLY EMAIL US FROM EUROPE WITH HIS!!!! It will only give text only (ie; no attachmnets/photos etc) but it is our primary "address" for in/out contact . hope it works for you gf
