how to heat without a fireplace

We have a 2955RL and do not have the nice fireplace that larger units have. We find ourselves staying north a little later in the season than we usually do. we have two space heaters that really aren't doing that great of a job and don't want to use up all our propane when we can use the electrical from the campgrounds. We have found a heater online that will heat up to 1000 sq ft for $129. We are thinking about it but it may be overkill. Anyone else have a suggestion?

If this heater has a thermostat then you have no worry about overkill, just set the thermostat at the temperature you want to maintain and it should do the job for you. Should it get colder than expected you will have some reserve.

Some heaters have 2 settings, one around 700 watts and the other at 1000 watts, the best is one with a thermostat.

In cooler area when I need to use the propane heater, I turn it on in the morning to take the chill out of the RV. I then have one space heater which I use for the rest of the day. Keeps the RV warm enough.
I do close off the bedroom, heat rises, to keep the heat downstairs. You can also try if you have a ceiling fan to put it on low and it will bring down the warm air from the ceiling

We have a Vornado and it works very well. Although we have 50 amp cord, we usually run a heavy duty extension cord by the slide and plug it in the extra outlet on the pole. Some have added an extra wall socket just for this purpose. Don't remember the model of Vornado, but also use a smaller heater in the bedroom.

This is what we use, it does a pretty good job when we are in Wyoming elk hunting and then on to SD pheasant hunting in November. If it gets down to cold we will have to run the gas heat off and on to maintain. http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-751320-C.../dp/B000TTSXNI


Just a note: we do run a heavy cord thru the slide and plug in the post. We also plug our freezer into that also.

We use that same heater and used two of them in the stick house for power failures (used our generators) for a number of years. They will do the job.

I installed a burly fireplace in our 2955RL in the bottom of the entertainment centre and it works well

I installed the Burley in our 3075 and was pleased with the results.

Insulating pillows for the vents and sky light. Clear plastic sheeting over interior windows that you don't open often. Block the furnace air return when not using furnace. Big cup of hot chocolate and a warm blanket.

We use an Eden Pure heater. It works as a dual purpose end table/heater sits next to my lazy boy. The foam in the vents makes also makes a big difference.

thanks for all the replies. I have the door closed to the bedroom now and it has helped. We went ahead and ordered the heater I mentioned. It is thermostatically controlled. I like the idea of the Burley fireplace, but we use that space for our pet food.

I believe the cabinets of your 2955 are the same/similar to my 3075. I bought a Classic Flame 18" fireplace insert from electricfireplaces.com. I did not have to do any cabinet modifications. Just removed the lower doors, built a base to set it on inside the cabinet, and used some trim from Lowe's to finish it. The doors are under the bed in case I should decide to remove it and put the doors back on.


We do not do a lot of cold weather camping, but we do sometimes use a Lasko heater if it happens to get cold to reduce furnace usage. We can set it on the floor in the living area at night and it blows warm air into the bedroom. By doing so, it circulates the air and keeps all areas warm.

The lasko heaters look like something we could use. Are they loud, do they pretty generate the same type of fan noise like the trailer's furnace? We find our furnace to be quite loud, but we have gotten used to it. We certainly don't want anything louder.

Art - You can certainly hear the Lasko running as it moves quite a bit of air. I would not consider it loud. Not nearly as loud as the furnace. And if we set it in the living area at night pointed toward the bedroom you can barely hear it in the bedroom. Just a litte "white noise".
