Does Good Sam ever sell an insurance policy?
Being the curious type (and being bored!), I decided to get an on-line quote from Good Sam just to see if the insurance market had changed any. We have had Progressive for years, but since the experts??? always say to occasionally check the market, I decided I would give it a try. Talk about an eye opening (that is putting it mildly!) experience. Good Sam quoted almost $2400 a year!! Gulp!! Thinking that the new 3850FL with all of it's fancy contraptions attached may be the reason, I figured I had better go ahead and check with Progressive so there would not be any unforeseen surprises. The coverages were quoted exactly the same - full replacement (other than disappearing deductible takes Progressive to $0), and while Progressive did go up some, I am much more comfortable with the $700 a year quote. Just makes me wonder if Good Sam ever does actually sell a policy??

I just purchased a GS policy for my new HC 318RE for $575 a year. Of course, my HC is probably half the cost of your new rig.

I purchased GS for the Montana with Home Owners equivalent and moved all my vehicles over. Progressive has been approx 50%+ higher for my cars when I've tried then in the past. They were pretty good for RV alone though.

I guess I should consider myself lucky. My truck and Montana combined are about $1100/year. That's Eastern Insurance.

Insurance cost will very greatly even within the same company depending on where you live. Sometimes it doesn't make sense, but it is what it is.

Our policy same as you stated is real close to your Progressive quote. GS can not compete.

Progressive here too. When we got our new unit in April I got a quote from Good Sam also and Progressive was about $150.00 cheaper at
$640.00. And that's in NY. Also I just found out that progressive had
$31.00 on the policy for Road Service which we don't need since we have Good Sam road service that covers the RV and the Truck. So we were paying double SO CHECK YOUR POLICY that your not paying for
Road Service TWICE. Good luck with the new unit. Many happy trips.

GS doesn't sell any insurance. They use an underwriter and different companies from year to year. For example, our first year, we went with GS, and it turned out to be a Motors Insurance Company (MIC - as in GMAC). A few years later I believe they switched companies, and I'm not sure who they use now. Think of Sears Appliances - they have Sears brand on them, but they aren't made by Sears.

When we bought our 2011 Big Sky we asked Good Sam for a quote, I couldn't believe it, over $1200.00. Progressive was half of that for the year $600.00, so Progressive it is...

I agree. We are with Progressive via USAA and our costs are about the same as Bingo's quote. Our coverage is $300K.

To be fair to Good Sam, I just got off the phone with a representative who did manage to come up with a better rate. What we are pricing is $500 deductible, full replacement policies. They came back with a hair more than $1,000, which at least didn't create any Gulp Moments!. Still higher than Progressive, and then has the deductible at $500 versus $0 for Progressive. Choice is a simple one at least.

Bingo,
"Full replacement policies" have an expiration, usually 5 model years. What is important is the coverage in the 6th and subsequent years. Some policies reduce coverage to ACV, the fully depreciated value of the rig, others revert to purchase price. This is a huge difference. It is a decision that is best made when the policy is purchased when the rig is new. GMAC (Good Sam) in our state only offers ACV after 5 years so, IMHO, it is a poor policy no matter the price.

Another reason to stick with Progressive, our policy is purchase price after the fiver year replacement period.

I had Progressive for 5 yrs, one fender bender and they wouldn't keep me insured. Said I didn't tell them I was full timer. Just saying they use whatever they can to not insure you if they think you may have more wreaks.

We had the same experience as Bingo.....we kept getting the "just see for yourself" fliers thru the mail and emails as well. They also said to use the "special code" and really see the savings! So I tried it and they couldn't come close to what we are paying now. I was very disappointed with all the time spent going thru policy info for them before getting the very high quote.
