Bed Struts Mystery

I recently removed my bed platform to convert it to a queen. When I reinstalled the bed struts they both are stuck in the extended position. Is there a secret to these things or are they ruined if they happen to get fully extended. Its a mystery to me!

I had a similar problem when I installed a couple of pairs on the cabinets over the range. I changed the angle I had them set at and then they worked.

They have to be pretty straight, a little bit of an angle will cause them to bind

These struts require a tremendous amount of push at full extension to get them to retract, you may have reduced the bed platform in size/weight and have certainly reduced the weight of the mattress, I suspect it is that difference you are now seeing and they are not jammed at all. It will take extra force to get them to move.

You might have to reduce the capacity of the struts now, think about the ejection seat in a F18 fighter jet then imagine being all snuggled up to the DW and suddenly launched out the roof of the Monty onto the roof of SOB, how embarrassing would that be....

Seriously: When I had the king mattress off my bed platform it took considerable effort to get them to move, not so much when the mattress was back in place.

We went with a sleep number mattress and now the DW has to almost hang on the bed end to close it. I would guess I could change the angle and make it easier for her but she just thinks I'm wonderful when I come in and shut it for her,

Their are struts for Queen and King etc.
So if you change mattress for proper operation the struts have to be changed

Actually, like everything with RVing, that depends. Ours came with a king and we had it cut down by the dealer for a queen and then we had our pillow top mattress from our TT transferred over and left them with the King mattress. It seems the pillow top weighs a good deal more than an OEM king and so now we usually hold the mattress up while the other of us works under it.
