Extended Warranties

Does anyone know what the best one is as far as extended warranties go?
I am sure there are a lot of them out there and I have been trying to sort through all of them I am finding on the internet.
Each dealer tries to push what ever company they use.

I was considering Good Sam as they have been around the RV business for a long time, but someone said they were bought out and now not as good?

In my opinion it's a crap shoot. If you use one particular dealer your most of the time better to go with the company they promote. If you travel all over the place then a policy from someone like Good Sam makes sense. They place the insurance with other companies, but at least you can try and get Good Sams help if needed. Just my opinion, others may not agree.

Thank you for your input. I would like to travel after I retire in 3 years, I am also living in mine full time since I bought it. I sold my small farm and trying to get everything in order so I can enjoy my retirement traveling around the United States.

Price is important, however, hassle free claims handling is paramount. Wherever you plan to frequent for repairs, I would talk to their service manager about who lets them bill direct and is good about paying the claims. After you get that company's name or companies, then you can shop price, even on line or direct with the carrier.

we had Rv shield on the 06 3400 and it paid for itself many times over. We have the good Sam extended warranty on this 2013 34302 Big Sky. we travel a lot. We do many miles. If you think your Rv will not have a big $$ failure during the time you have it don't waste your $$ of a extended warranty. The Norcold 4 door fridge already failed on this 2013 covered under Keystone warranty this time. Check out what a new fridge cost. We had 5 holding tanks fail on the 2006 3400 only one covered under keystone warranty. Check out the replacement cost on a holding tank.

I bought mine in December 2012 it is a 2013 3750fl and The 4 door refrigerator failed completely at 4 month and Keystone did warranty it.
I hope I do not have anymore issue's but I am not a gambler so I would rather have an extended warranty as insurance you might say.

Have you been happy with the Good Sam extended warranty so far???
I am leaning towards Good Sam because in 3 years when I retire, I do not know where I might end up!

I just purchased a 285rld, and bought the extended warentee through Camperworld. I hope I don't have to use it.
I think as mentioned it all comes to personal preference.

Well Big Dave we have not had use the G.S extended warranty but our experience with extended warranties has been good and GS/camping world seems to be a reputable organization. The G.S warranty covers everything the RV shield warranty covered. Camping worlds Are everywhere in terms of repair service that may be needed. Now I do like this 13 3402 Big Sky and the 06 3400 served us well and I have no problem with Keystone or their Customer service. We have been treated fairly in all of our dealings with Keystone....having said that I have practically zero confidence that this 2013 32402 Big sky will not suffer a major failure during the time we have it therefore we have the extended warranty. Just my opinion....

We went with Wholesale Warranties 7 year. Price was competitive and it covered more then the GS, at least when we got ours. Thankfully we have not had to use ours.

I agree with DQDick. Your dealer is your best bet. I hadn't heard that Good Sam no longer does warranties because I have their CSP plan where I pay so much a month to keep my rig under extended warranty. Has saved us a lot.

The problem with going through my dealer is, I am not always going to be in this dealers area.

If we say that the Good Sam CSP warranty plan is a good one, it's only because it's been good for us. Any warranty is only as good as the company makes it. I was questioning if Good Sam was not providing that service any more since that's the plan I have and I've not been notified that they have stopped it. We may be talking apples and oranges here. Maybe we're talking about two different plans. Either way, I believe Good Sam is a good way to go.

There are 132 Camping World stores across the US and adding many per year. CW and Good Sam are the same folks. When we trade in about 3 weeks we will change from Rt 66 to GS because you are never very far from CW.

We choose to "self-insure" on all purchases. I know others will not agree with this approach but it works well for us. Just throwing this out as another option.

Have always been in the self-insured camp, and never purchased an extended warranty or CSP from anyone on any personal property. However, we get concerned about about the cost of replacing fridge, AC, holding tanks, or several other high dollar repairs. So, since trading for the new rig have been considering an extended service plan through Good Sam at or about the end of our first year.

We use Good Sam and have been very pleased with the service. We've recently had two big repairs on our 2007 Montana, and Good Sam processed both quickly and efficiently. Of course, it may help to have a dealer and a good service writer (Bill Logan/Bretz RV in Missoula) who regularly work with Good Sam.

So far, Good Sam has been good to us!

My rational on extended warranties is. I can not afford to put away money every month to self insure for high dollar repairs. I could afford for example the 1100.00 it cost me for a 7 year extended warranty on the 06 3400 that was 157.00 per year. My first holding tank failure under the extended warranty in the 3rd year of ownership was 650.00 less 50.00 deductible. A axle shift was 350.00 less 50.00 deductible. We had a fridge failure and replacement and the last holding tank failure was both a grey and black tank failure and replacement at 800.00 less 50.00 deductible. There were couple more in there that I can not remember the cost of.

When there is a failure I just call the warranty company get a authorization number find a repair facility take the camper there write a check for 50.00 and we are done. The extended warranty works for us considering that the probability of failure in a high use Rv is IMO high.

I have got to find out what the cost is for a 4 or 5 year plan for our new rig and what is actually covered and under what circumstances the costs of repairs will be covered.
