Slideout problem

When retracting my slideouts (2 -small bedroom, large living room) the motor dies with a thump, thump sound. Given a minute and it will resume and retract the slides. Talked to the dealer by phone who thinks problem is a relay that overheats then rests to allow retraction to resume. Says relay is a 5$ part any trailer shop should be able to fix.

Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions before I take it in to be fixed?

Thanks very much for any responses.

This sounds like the issue many of us have had in the past. There is a thermistor between the battery and the pump motor. In most cases this has been too small and it 'overheats' and trips out while running the slides. If you wait for a minute or so, it cools and then the slides will run again. If you are under warranty have your dealer replace the thermistor, if not under warranty, replace this with a larger one. If I recall, this is a 30/40 amp thermistor and more recent Montana's the thermistor is 50/60 amp. You can do a search on this topic and you should have more results.

Many of us have had to replace our auto reset circuit breakers for that very issue. If you look near your battery and slide pump you should see something that looks similar to this. You can buy them at any RV parts store or auto parts store. Check the side of your old one to see the amp rating. About $5. Cheap and easy to replace.
If you continue to have a problem with it you may need to do as some of us and install two of those in parallel. Typically the OEM one is 50 amp. I replace my original 50 amp with a new 50 amp. In about a year it failed also. So I wired two 40 amp breakers in parallel and no more problem.

The 40amp in parallel is the fix for the older model trailers. On newer ones Keystone has approved an 80amp replacement (that's what they put in ours under warranty). Call Keystone customer service and make sure yours is wired to take that high a one and if not do the two 40amps in parallel.
