Well,
I have recently joined the China Bombs Club.
On a recent trip from MO to PA and return, we had two flats wiithin 30 miles of each other. The flats were the cause of tire failure. The steel belts were coming through the tires.
Tire age: 4 years. Years on the trailer: LESS than 2 years. Tire Pro worked great and alarms saved any trailer damage.
Questions: Are the G614's having so issues? I remember posts were Ozz and others were having some problems.
Bingo......what tires did you buy. I believe you bought the G614s. Please give me the size of the tires that you bought.
Any other tire suggestions would be appreciated.

Same as vince here, joe. G614's. No problems to date, running about 100-105 psi cold. You also don't have to change to rims on our models, just make sure they insert high-pressure metal valve stems. The rubber ones will leak with the tire pressure sensor's on them. Unfortunately, as heavy as our rigs our, an lt type tire will not support the loads. They are pricey, but i don't even think about tires when pulling now. Good luck with your decision.

Two years on G614's with no problems. Fun to pull down the road now.

No issues with our G614s and when we traded for the new coach we had tires and rims moved to the new Monty.

I just replaced my Duro's with the G614's. Hadn't had any trouble with them (the Duro's), just felt like I was traveling on "borrowed time". I run my 614's at max 110# pressure cold, some people run less pressure but don't know why. On my recent trip to FL, I didn't worry about tires, a real relief. ST tires are made for 65 MPH MAX. With the 614's you can run 75 all day long at max 110# pressure, just make sure you have 110 # rims and metal high pressure valve stems.

Did you have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System installed and if you didn't, would it help detect a impending tire failure?

Yes, I have the Pressure Pro system and on each flat the alarm went off and counted down the tire pressure. I was able to get safely off the road both times with no trailer damage. The system worked great.
I agree. I always run my tires at the cold pressure rating that is on the tire. Some do less because the tire heats up, but the manufacturer has allowed for that when setting the cold setting. I plan to run at 110 psi because of the weight of my Monty. Metal high pressure stems are a must especially with the pressure pro system. Thanks......

110 psi? Now you have got me thinking! I run my tires at 80 psi on my Monti. Need I rethink this? I am at about 15,000 lbs.

If you have 614's, you are under inflated. Most ST's and LT's are 80 pound max. Your tire sidewall should tell you what you need to know.

Sorry Guys, but the side wall only tells you the max pressure the tire is allowed to have cold.
You need to weigh your trailer and see what the weight the tires are carrying. Then consult a tire load chart for the size of the tire you have and then see what weight the tire is carrying.
My 2014 3150RL has 10,340lbs on the axles. For a 235/80R16E that equates to 65psi.
However I replaced my Marathons with 800 miles on them with Bridgestone Durvais 250's and I run them @ 70psi.
To know what pressure you need to run in your tires you need to know what weight you are carrying.

I had Maxxis tires on my previous Sunnybrook. When traded the tires had 3 years with a trip from Alabama through Canada to Nova Scotia. I had two friends with the Maxxis and one had trip to Alaska. They are 80 profile and are called M8008. I bought the Maxxis after reading several positive reviews on another forum.
I think the Maxxis are built in Korea. The load of the Maxxis is about 300# more than Marathon.

Running Max air cold will not hurt your tires. With ST tires, under inflation and speed is the #1 tire killer. ST tires, 65 MPH, under inflation, tires run hotter. like said before, manufactures take into consideration the expansion after tires warm up when setting psi at max air cold.

The sidewall gives you the max load rating at xx psi cold pressure. For the Marathons the max load rating is at 80 psi, running them at 65 lbs would be running them under inflated and they would be much more likely to overheat and wear on the outer edges. I don't know what the max pressure rating is on the Bridgestone Duravis, but the tire is only rated at just over 3000 lb capacity. I completely agree with Kerry, speed and under inflation are the two biggest killers of trailer tires, along with overloading of course.
Run the tires at their max cold pressure and you will be less likely to have any kind of problems. JMHO

Agree with Ed. Tire manufacture says over inflated tires tend to wear down middle of tire. I've not seen this to happen.
My TV came with tire pressure monitors and they are set for 80# rear and 65# front. Any pressure + or - 5# and I get a constant message that pressure is off. By the weight of my TV rear should be 45# when not towing. I tried to get dealer to disable the monitors but said it is against federal law. Glad we're be looked out for.

Got my G614s yesterday in Havasu City AZ after replacing 5 Marabombs
over four years. Also new wheels.
If anyone needs E rated wheels I have three left of assorted types.
One Montana aluminum wheel from 2009 3585SA. One new Marathon tire.

Called Goodyear customer service. In short, they don't believe they have had any issues with the Marathon's since the year 2000. Goodyear, then, added another layer fiberglass to the sidewalls. They were unaware of any other issues with the, China made, "Marathon bombs" and hadn't heard of any complaints. They will not offer any trade and said if I would put on the G614's, I'd have to change the wheel rims as well. Total load capacity on the ST235/80R16 Marathons was 13,680 lbs., anything over that will void any warranty. I also called my local Goodyear dealer and they were clueless as they deal with automobiles, rarely any other tires, especially 5th wheel trailers. Also, the Montana dealer, Lakeshore RV, in MI, wasn't aware of any Marathon tire issues either and they have sold many over the years. We have a brand new 3625RE and have less than 1000 miles on it and are taking it on a 2000 mile plus journey in fall. Interesting situation, blogs are full of commentaries re: "Marabombs" and yet Goodyear and this Monty dealership seem unaware of any problems. It's perplexing.
