"Lock In"
Saw this on Good Sam and wonder if anyone had come up with a better solution. Our handle can only go over the door when the slides are out, but could when they're in. Has anyone done something like this?

Might slow down, but doubt that is going to stop anybody. Pretty sure I could grab and snap the arm right off the wall. RVs are pretty easy to get into, but if I was going to spend some money for a bit more security, a quality deadbolt replacement for the door would be my choice.

That's a couple of scary stories, but I don't like the fix. Something else for me to work on and design.

I just sanded the groove and put a little vinyl restorer on the groove so if you push the door the handle pops to the open position. I did this a couple years ago and it still pops out.

Ok, just finished building a fire escape ladder for the bedroom and I'm ready to tackle another problem. What if you drilled a hole thru the handle and put something like an O bolt thru it and then used something like this ( http://www.amazon.com/The-Ultra-Club...ef=pd_sim_sg_4) to lock the arm in place. The purpose of the O bolt would be so they couldn't easily slip the lock off.

The problem with using this for us is that we use the handle to keep the cats from pushing the storm door open if we leave just the storm door in place while we sit in the yard or go next door to the neighbors.

Just finished drilling a small hole and screwing in a hex head 1" cap screw into the bottom black plastic mount not quite all the way. It works fine by stopping the arm from dropping into the slot and the door opening pushes the arm away. Didn't do that until I'd made certain that the handle would work fine put back the other way - turns out it works there with the living room slide in or out (or moving). Don't know about your rig, but I feel better now.

This is the first time I've heard of this prank. I'm sure it's an extremely isolated incident when it's done by malice. An accident? With the wife/husband? That might be another story....

No mods to mine, and my door easily pops the handrail open. In fact, that is one of the things I checked when I first took delivery of my 5er in 2009.
My handrail mounts are mounted fairly close, about 1.5" from the edge of the mount to the edge of the door. I suppose that if they were mounted extremely close to the edge of the door it could pose a problem.
awaywego's solution seems to be the easiest fix to the problem, if you do indeed have trouble opening your door with handrail closed over it.

No issue here, our 2001 347THT Mountaineer has 2 doors & only 1 has the folding grab bar.

You can use duct tape and/or velcro to keep the cats wherever you want them.
(Oh, that's not what your meant?)

They must use different mounts on some units. On ours the notch is tapered so when the handle is closed across the door you push on the door from the inside and it pops open very easy.

I heard about this two weeks ago when it happened in the park I am at now. Glad I have a window in the slide out wall next to the door, I can pop the screen and move the handle. This is just one more thing to think about when folks are thinking about buying a new floor plan.

I think I would get some JB Weld and make a filler on the side that allows the door hand rail to rest in that way it cant lock itself into the recess then if you bump it with the door it will allow the handle to rotate around to the out word position. then FREEDOME !!!!

Made mod to our 3100RL yesterday as shown in video. Used 1/4 X 5 1/2" carriage bolt. Rounded the square part with Dremal and used nyla-nuts to secure. Works great.
