How are recliners strapped in?

After a bumpy ride yesterday, the inside of the Montana was a mess including the recliners at the back were popped open. The movement broke the lamp bulb. I generally turn the recliners facing each other with the backs against the side windows. I slide the small table in between the chairs. I see "D" rings on the floor and straps in the cabinet. Do the rest of you use the straps? How do you strap them in?

On our previous rig with the recliners, I used to strap them together, back to back with a pillow in between to keep the fabric from rubbing together. Never had to strap them down and when they were strapped together, never presented a problem to us.

We strapped ours together as Bingo said. I also removed those "d" rings as I have a bad habit of kneeling down on things like that when looking for something on the floor. The screws do not penetrate thru the floor so they will not leave holes.

I have yet to strap ours down, but we've never been on an extremely bumpy road yet. We, too, keep ours back to back, but not quite touching.

We have been putting ours back to back and keeping our small table between them. The table lays down and does not touch the backs of the recliners. We then strap the tops of the recliners together. We have been on some bad roads recently and nothing moved when secured this way.

If the recliners are not strapped down there may be that day when you find that frost heave or bad bump that will cause the recliners to leap in the air and do damage.
On the way to Alaska we hit a frost heave in Canada that caused our recliners to leap in the air and broke and bent up the back window blind and broke one of the reclining mechanisms in one of the chairs. This was probably the most extreme case we have encountered in our travels. We did not have the chairs strapped down.
We now strap the chairs down to the D rings and put a strap around the back of the chairs to hold them back to back with a cover over each chair back to keep them from rubbing together.
The table is turned upside down and slipped into the seat of one of the chairs. The table will ride safely in the chair.
The above is what we do that works for us.
BTW, the couch drawer was also broken in the big bad frost heave incident.

D-rings have always been useless to me. Strap chairs together with blanket in between away from wall and that works for us.

Our recliners, that came with the unit, were strapped in at some point by the shipping company and evidently were strapped down too hard as it crushed the padding in the arm rests. We have since replaced the recliners with ones from Costco that are much more comfortable. We do NOT strap them down as we found it difficult to get the straps hooked up. So we turn the recliners so that they are set up foot to foot (that way if the recliner part releases it just bumps the other recliner), then I have cut down thick pool noodles to shove under the sides and back. Then I place a really thick pool noodle between the back window and the recliners. So far no issues and we have gone down some pretty bumpy roads. The noodles are then stored in the back of the closet when not in use.

Hope that helps. We use pool noodles for a lot of things. For example, we have one around our 'rolling battering ram' of an island. That way if it does roll it doesn't hurt anything.

I do what JandC and Jolu do (chairs back to back, table upsidedown between the chairs) and for the same reasons. The straps came with the rig and when attached to the D rings keep the chairs in place. We don't travel far or even all that often and haven't damaged anything yet so I'm not tempted to do less.

I think the roads do make a difference and since I drive in southern California (the most traveled and probably worst overall roads on average), this is what I'll continue to do.

As with others, I've always used the straps and D-Rings that came with the fiver. I preload the chairs back to back with a heavy towel in-between and chinch them down with the straps. If I know I'm leaving the fiver sit for a while, I always release the straps so they don't crush the arm padding. The D-Rings are always under the chairs when I pull them out for daily use, so their placement is no issue for me. Just curious ... how do you keep from tearing the window curtains with your method of placing the backs against the windows????

The back of the recliners are pressing against the angled peek-a-boos. With the bouncing of the swiveled recliners, it worked a screw out the peek-a-boo.

We also use the original straps and D rings. Every trip we find unexpected new pot holes and ice heaves. Better safe than sorry. Besides, "summer" is construction season up here so nothing is smooth.

Have never used the straps yet. We just turn them back to back and push them against the wall. We do make sure they are tight up against each other back to back. Course we don't have swivel ones any more but we did the same when we did have the old swivel ones.

We have never strapped them down. Just turn them back to back with a towel between them. Over 30K miles and no problem.

Well, if you are going to travel through Pennsylvania, ya better have more than the recliners strapped down!!!!

Seriously, with the 3400RL, the rolling counter top NEEDS to be placed between the two recliners and the recliners need to be strapped down. It DOES NOT ride well between the slides as the glass in the fireplace will testify!!

Like others we use the D ring and straps back to back with the table between. We did the same with our Cedar Creek. The only movement is towards the rear window. If I remember, I put pillows there.
