Overall length. How is it measured?

Okay, we have been looking at houses and have found one we really like. So, we are in contract and now have to make sure we can get our Monty in the driveway.

We have a 2009 340 RLQ. according to our original spec sheet, we are 38' 10" long. Is this measured from the pointy nose to the rear most part of the ladder? If not, where?

That's how I measured mine and I'm the same length as you. That's the length you have to deal with.

Years ago I asked a Keystone person that. When he got back to me after talking to an engineer he said it's an estimate based on the frame length plus whatever they add to it. The operative word is "estimate."

I have a 50' tape measure. The specs for ours says 38' 4". The tape measure says 39' 1". So I go by the latter. We measured from the forward-most point to the rear-most point, which was the ladder. I vertically leveled a board against each end and marked those points on the ground, then measured between marks. I needed to know because that's how much room we need in a site in an rv park.

You would think the RV manufactures could give us a very accurate length. The complete overall length is what is needed, like you said for getting into some tight RV sites.

I was told by Keystone that the model is based on the inside space, from the back wall to the inside front wall. For example, we have a 2013 3100RL and the inside space is supposed to measure 31" from inside wall to inside wall. The spec sheet measurement is from the back corner OUTSIDE frame to the front of the cap. Our spec says 35'9". However, when we measure from the back of the ladder to the very front of the hitch we get 36'5". That is the measurement we use for choosing a campsite, in fact we say 38' just to make sure we have plenty of room. So quite frankly I think the best measurement is the one you take yourself from whatever point matters to you! For our concrete pad we measured from back of ladder to front of pin. Hope that helps! If I call ahead to a campground, I just let them know that I have around 40' plus the truck. Generally I get pull-thrus anyway. Good luck with the house.

Yes, we've always just said 42' because we have our generator carrier on the back. But, now we have to get into our new driveway with just inches to spare. I think I'll use Steve's method for measuring to get an accurate overall length.

Ours measures almost 4 ft longer than the specification from Keystone. The only way to get a real length is to measuring it.

When we are home I park mine on a 40-foot slab (use to be a barn) and I have less than 1 ft. of concrete that I can walk by the front of the trailer. This make my 36 ft trailer about 39.5 ft. long from the very front of the hitch to the back of the ladder.

Does this mean we will not see you in the winter at Kozy?

We have a 2011 3400rl. Keystone says it is 37'4". Well I measured it and it is exactly 39 feet.

Keystone's own web-site shows a 2009 3665RE length at 38 ft. 4 inches. You cannot go by the model number to determine length. For instance a 3400 is a lot longer than 34 feet.

The factory numbers are meaningless. Get a tape and measure your actual length, just to be sure. For example, we have a 2955. 29', right? Not so fast, Kemosabe. We actually measure 33', and 45' end to end when we are hooked up. Sreigle got the same info I did when I called the factory.

That rumor does not fly either, does not even come close on a 3400, and by that logic a 3750 has 350 more square feet than a 3400 or 3402, and a 3850 has 100 square feet more than a 3750, don't think so.

the part we have to park is how we measure, From the very front to the very back.

Drop a plumb line on front most and back most parts then mark on ground/concrete and measure from line to line. Congratulations and best wishes on the new house, this is a good time to buy. Just a thought, double check your new HOA/Restrictions on parking RVs and such .

Restrictions are why it has taken so long to find "the" house. We are not in a subdivision and the driveway is just long enough!

Good News on Restrictions, being a real estate appraiser (mostly rural and farms) I have seen folks cornered when needing to make a few changes. We have family in Phoenix, AZ where busy-bodies use the HOA as a hobby to control others. Here in beautiful (Middle of Nowhere) Rock Island, TN We like the rural life style, when we hear gun fire in our neighborhood it is gooood and we know our neighbors are sighting-in or putting meat on the table.
