Repairing baggage door gas struc mount

Just had the mounting plate screws for the baggage door gas strut pull loose from the baggage door. Any suggestions on how to repair so it won't happen again. The trailer is a 2011 Montana 3400RL.

If you check the search function you'll find a number of threads on this. The most popular fix seems to be putting a small piece of wood in the hole (toothpicks and kitchen matches work) and then glue and then replace the screw. Keystone seems to be telling dealers to put diamond plate in and then attach to the diamond plate. I haven't heard how they want the diamond plate attached in the first place.

I would suggest that you call call keystone customer service as they have a fix for the problem that they can relay to your dealer. If the service rep you talk to says they never heard of that problem ask them to transfer you to Robyne Hakes as I can assure you she has.

I've repaired mine using this method. Go to Lowe's and purchase a flat piece of aluminum at least 3" wide by at least 1/8" thick. Cut a piece off to create a square (3x3, 4x4, etc). Drill 4 holes in the plate at the 4 corners. Coat with silicon or some type of construction adhesive. Locate plate with the center at the location where the anchor point for the gas strut was. Install 4 screws and leave it cure overnight. Next day using self tapping screws reinstall the strut anchor and strut.
Hope this helps.
