Lite Propane Cylinder Recall
I remember a few discussions regarding similar lightweight propane cylinders where one could see the level of propane in the cylinder through the translucent sides. Here is what the tanks looked like:
Lite Propane Tank
Unfortunately, the concept did not last and this specific company is insolvent now and the tanks were being recalled by DOT. I guess this means that the owners of the tanks have no recourse but to dispose of the tanks. Here is the recall order:
Lite Propane Cylinder Recall
I guess those who were wondering how good these were and are have their answers now!

I'm with Robbie on this issue. I really wanted to have one of these tanks. And while the price may now be "right" it really wouldn't do you any good since I doubt any reputable propane dealer would fill the defective tanks. Too bad the company couldn't or wouldn't produce a good product.
Wonder why they don't use aluminium glass? Too expensive I guess. Travel safely, Dennis

The only thing holding me back from buying them was the size. I kept hoping they would come out with a larger one for our rigs. Guess that hope is over. Sure sucks for those folks who bought them!

If you read the recall, it is illegal to have the recalled tanks filled. However, there are only certain tanks that it applies to. The recall is an interesting read as to some of the things this company did. The 30 pound tanks were never approved, yet they sold them out of the country with approved DOT stamps on them. The DOT stamp number is how one knows which ones are bad. Now with that said, and knowing that any of these type of tanks were bad, I know if I were a propane distributor, I would sure be telling every client that I had to not fill any brand of these type of tanks. Looks like another instance of greed that destroyed a good idea. Oh, and Dennis, the "cheap" price was purely intended to be tongue-in-cheek!

Opens fine here. Must be a Nebraska thing or you could have breathed too many glue fumes helping Exnavydiver on the roof. (The picture he posted of his assistant would lead one to believe this is possible.) See if the visiting cheese head can help you. Jim

Ron and I both bought the Ragasco brand tanks at the 2010 rally and these ARE NOT part of the recall. These were manufactured in Sweden and are a totally different DOT #. I have dropped mine off the back of the truck and otherwise beaten the heck out of it without any problem. I have printed a copy of the recall letter to show the first propane supplier that claims it is on recall. Lite Propane tanks were made in TN if I read the letter correctly. Ragasco has been trying to get enough demand for the 31# vapor feed tanks to ship a container here. They do have a 31# liquid feed for fork lifts and as with the 20 lb bottles the full composite bottle weighs less than the empty steel. And the difference in weight on the 31# is way more apparent.

If they ever get the 31# here, I'll be in line right behind Tom.

We fill tanks for people in our park ONLY during the Winter. I am thinking that we will not be filling ANY of the plastic tanks at all this year. We have never filled any before but some visitor may show up with one. If they do we will NOT be filling it, letter or not. Just not worth the hassle for the 7or 8 cents a gallon.

THANK YOU DAVE MCNAIR!! As soon as I read Bingo's post, I went and pulled the composite cylinder from the belly of the new Montana. I purchased it at last year's fall rally and just recently had it filled. I just checked it again and it is a Ragasco cylinder and not a Lite cylinder.
