drawers & doors

Holy Shnikeys! With our maiden voyage during travel, cabinet doors and drawers are popping and sliding open. Now we have 2 broken bowls. The slide out desk slides open and slams shut. The speaker cover popped off. It seems to me that the catches are not up to the task. I had to buy Velcro straps for the double doors but the singles can't be helped. The desk drawer slide too. Even my pocket door keeps coming unhitched on one side. It is a new surprise everytime we open the door. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do?

Not a recurring problem. In fact, only one trip did we have any cabinet doors come open. Broke a bowl and dumped a box of detergent on the floor. Don't remember anything unusual, but must have hit a bigger bump than other trips. Like you, I use a velcro strap on all double doors. I only have a couple single doors and I do not strap them as they have never opened.
Only had one drawer that would open while traveling. But I adjusted the catch and it now stays closed.
Occasionally the pocket door will open if the latch strap comes loose. But so seldom I have not done anything about it yet.

Singles can be fixed. Contact Mynabird here on the MOC. Her hubs, HoboBob has fixed. Must have foamy stuff between all dishes. Adjust all latches so they really grab. Some of the fellows will happen along to give better explanation. Air pins or air hitches help. Many more ideas. But time to roll. Gotta run and roll.

We are full timing and have NEVER had any drawers or cabinets come open during travel even in our rear kitchen. That sound your hear is me knocking on wood!

We have a Mor/Ryde pin box and so have fewer problems. Others use air ride hitches or pin boxes with success. Before we added IS we did have problems with a couple of singles. I just left the original catches on there and added some magnetic ones where necessary. If you go to Lowe's or one of the other box stores they have two kinds of magnetic ones. I bought the strongest and we haven't had a door open since. We do use the velcro straps on the double doors.

We had 3 drawers and doors open first trip. One of our techs told me that the male and female parts had to be perfectly aligned for the latches to hold well. I aligned them and no more problems.
When our 3900 arrives I will be looking closely at the latches during PDI.

In Alaska, with our perfect roads and smooth ice heaves, we often had cabinets and drawers coming out to investigate the RV. I found baby latches (plastic mechanisms to keep children from opening cabinets). When we get to the campground, I can 'disengage' these and cabinets function as designed. On the road, we latch these and have no issues since installation.

We have the opposite problems. I nearly "skin my knuckles" every time I grab a handle!

Bungee cords on the cabinets that have two handles together and an extra set of latches (two latches total) on the single doors has worked for me so far. I did make an oak catch for the pot and pan drawer and the big one above the refrigerator and stained them to match the woodwork. They just twist 90 degrees to allow the door to open or to keep it closed.

After almost 4 years with our 3400, the only drawer that ever vibrates open is the one in the table...and it opens every time!

We had drawers, double and single open. We did what DQDick did. Went to Lowes and added their strongest magnet holds on each of the drawers and cabinets. Worked great.
