walmart overnight stay
Is there a list of Walmart's that allow overnight stays? Possibly a pdf file?

A quick google search turned up this list
Not sure how current the info is.
The all stays app also lists the yes and no wallmarts and is updated.
If you don't have that app - its highly worthwhile. In Apple & Android.

That list is the list that DON'T allow stays. It's a great start, though. If you're Internet enabled while your underway, you can stay up to date with the app.

I found a lot of Walmarts in California do not care if you use their parking lots over night but city ordanances do not allow you to park overnight in any parking lots.

We use the AllStay's app as well and like it. A suggestion - also call ahead to be sure - that has always worked for us.

I can't believe it, you can pay $50,000 to $70,000 PLUS for an RV and you have to stay in Walmart. This goes for the high priced motorhomes I see parked there also.

I figured the don't camp list would be a lot shorter that the Do Camp list.
And you can use Allstays on a limited basis without internet. You just need to browse the map area that you are going to while you do have internet service, and then leave the app open. the Map will be cached in memory on the iPad. You can come back to it later and browse that same area and the maps will scroll up to the edge of the area you scrolled online. You can click on the icons and they will bring up the data because all of the data is resident on the program.
Also - the Rand McNally 7720 GPS has the Allstays data and a bit more. If you click on a Wallmart for example - it might have some input other than allowed or not allowed.. Such as something like "numerous RV's and Trucks parked on the Southeast side (10/2012)"
As for why park there with an expensive RV?? I personally don't do it much, but now and then when in Trucker Mode and trying to make long distance in little time I'll drive till late, crash for a few hours, then hit the road at daybreak. Going to a park for a stay like that just takes too much time and I prefer a Wallmart over most truckstops.

Why stay at a Walmart parking lot?
I agree with Gkerlin. When on the road and driving all day to get to a location and 8 or 9 pm roll around I will stop to sleep a few hours and get back on the road. Truck stops and lighted parking lots are easy to park in for a bite to eat and sleep with out having to back into a spot in the dark and hook up for just a couple of hours. Also starting up a diesel motor at 6 am does upset park people. One of the reasons we liked the 3580RL is you can get to the frig, head and bed without slides being open for the short hour stops.

We have seen some walmarts, particularly the one near where we winter in Florida, where you better be carrying if you step out of your rig at 0200 in the morning. Some strange folks wandering around the parking lot.

We are huge fans of the Allstays Ap. We have it on our smart phone and IPad. Aside from the information on Walmarts and RV Parks, great info for fuel, dump stations and beyond. If you purchased thru Amazon and have issues with updates, contact Allstays direct. The support has been top notch!

There is a Yahoo group called walmartrving that is very helpful. They do not encourage chitchat, but will respond to queries about locations allowing overnight parking, etc. I have downloaded their file and check it first when we are contemplating a Walmart stay. Then I call ahead to verify that the store still allows parking, and I ask the person I'm talking to if they (usually a she) would feel safe/comfortable spending the night in their parking lot. So far, they've always sounded surprised by that question, but said, "Yes, of course." Personally, I feel much safer in the WM parking lots we've used, especially those open 24 hours, than I would in a rest area.
This is the group's mission statement: "The purpose of the Walmart RVing Group is to discuss overnight parking of RV's at Walmart, K-Mart, Flying J, and similar hosts that allow free overnight RV parking, and to share current information about changes in those policies. One of the primary resources of this group is the "Walmart Parking List", found in the "Files" area. It is a listing of all Walmarts in the US, with address, store type, phone number, and overnight parking status. You can also find the same information as "Custom POI files" for Garmin devices in the files area. The database that produces these files is kept up-to-date by reports from group members and several others sources."

I will say again, I have called ahead to a Walmart store and been told it is ok to stay in their lot and have city police say no overnight parking in store parking lots in city limits. There are Walmarts that are in county zones.

That is not the norm though. Most Walmarts, if you ask someone in charge will tell you if you are allowed to stop overnite and if it is ok with the local authorities.

There is a great Walmart directory available from Amazon which lists all the Walmarts in the country by state. It tells which ones are open 24 hours, which ones have fuel, which ones you can stay overnight in, etc. Its short money and worth it's weight, believe me. We stayed in the one in Hagarstown, MD several times, and it usualy ends up having roughly 12 or so rv's overnight.

One of the most famous 'Can't stay' Walmarts is in Flagstaff, I read up on it before we headed through there. Some said you could, some said you couldn't. It is in a small parking area. We drove to it, signs everywhere, no overnight parking. We parked, went in and talked with the manager, she said it is fine with her, many people do it, if the cops said something, just tell them you are shopping there. Well that probably wouldn't work, but we did it anyway. Around 8:00 that night, all sorts of folks drove in and stayed, we were sandwiched in between two pickup trucks. I talked to the guy in front in the morning, he said he worked in the area and couldn't afford a motel, he slept in the camper shell in back. He said as long as you leave early no one is bothered by the cops.
'At your own risk' if pretty much the deal there.
I wouldn't try it in Goodyear Arizona

Ozz,
That's because they have a 8 X 10 glossy of you in all the police stations and post offices in Goodyear. A real person of interest.

I don't have to boon dock in casino lots but choose to now I am on a fixed income. That let's me buy more fuel to see more of the states. I have not done Walmart or truck stops yet.. They are not on the top of the list like western casinos.

X2 on the Casino parking. Buffet, and usually a patrolled parking lot.
