Landing gear motor question
I was installing a 'Y' to vent our second battery (was never done by previous owner) and noticed that the landing gear motor and gear box are somewhat loose & can wiggle a bit to the point that the motor will rub slightly on the square shaft when running. Everything works OK, but is this normal? I can't see anything to tighten other than some screws that appear already tight.

Wobble is normal. Not sure about the rubbing. If it isn't wearing down any metal parts, it is probably okay.

Walt,
Mine displaced enough to hit the shaft. Had my dealer evaluate and they installed a new gear box which solved the problem. I'm sure KS approved the new gear box.

I used a metal strap with holes to stabilize mine.

We just had our front landing gear and gear box replaced down in Little Rock on our way back to Omaha and the gear box was extremely loose and I asked the Tech about it and he told me they have to be somewhat loose but not like ours was because it nearly turned a 180 on the shaft when drive motor moved or tried to move the landing gear down and up. The new gear box that he put on has a metal enclosure and he said they are a whole lot better than the ones that come stock on the Montanas because the housing on the stock gear box is plastic and definitely have problems.

We have always noticed the wobble with no problems. However, last winter I replaced the plastic gear box with better quality all metal box, and the wobble pretty well disappeared.
