Going under the Big Sky

In the next day or so I will be crawling under the Big Sky to check and see if anything is leaking, loose or needs attention. What is the torque setting for the torque wrench on axles, spring hangers, X-Factors and any other thing I shoud check?

When I had them I used 75# on the U bolts, can't remember the others. Since we went IS I don't have any of that stuff anymore and my situation similar to X factor is welded in place.

On my '06 3500RL I used 65 ft/lbs for the u-bolts and 115# for the wheel lug nuts and I have 6,000 lb axles. Ever since tightening them a couple of years of owning the rig, joining MOC and learning about this and checking, they have been the same torque ever since! The wheels remain the same unless I take them off when checking brakes or checking bearings, then they'll be needing some tightening during a trip until they keep their torque if I don't remove them again.

I don't have the X-Factor and have not checked the spring hanger nuts. Anyone know what these are supposed to be?

That's all I'd be inclined to check on the rig. Other things I check are the TV lug nuts and the fifth wheel hitch and rails in the truck bed. Initially they need some tightening but once they get retorqued they seem to keep their settings. I must retorque each time after rotating the wheels for the first few hundred miles, but the bed rails and fifth wheel nuts are just fine since I have not removed them.

Proper torque for wheel lug nuts is 140 ft lbs

That's right, ours are 110-120

At the fall rally we were told 65 for the torque on the hanger Nuts.On our 13 Big sky none were better than 45 lbs out of the factory.

140 sounds about right if you have 5/8 studs, my HiSpec wheels with 9/16 studs are 120, but there are multiple factors, the wheel material, wheel mfr and stud size.

I posted prior that I use 115 ft/lbs for my wheel torque because my manual states 110 to 120. 115 is right in the middle. Your setting may differ.

Hopefully someone else with a 2011 Big Sky model 3580RL can state their wheel torque and hopefully yours is the same.

On our 2009 Big Sky and our previous 2006 3400RL, lug nut torque is/was 120.

I have Hi-Spec with 1/2 studs. They recommend 100.
