Bike Riding
This may sound like a stupid question but...here it goes...
My son wants us to take his bike with us. How soft is the dirt around the campsite? Is it worth even taking it with us? I am also not sure how safe it would be around that area. Let me know what you think.
I was also wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for toys to take...what would your kids/grandkids like if they were to show up at the circle. I am thinking of telescope, kite, spotting scope, binoculars, games to play, etc. Anything else you can think of?

Carol,
Your son can get around just fine on a bike. There are a few soft spots but most of it is hard packed dirt and stone. You will swear someong came along and leveled the area and then spread stone all over

Thanks Charlie! He is going to be so excited when I tell him that! He loves to race along and then stop quickly to make skid marks. I will have to tell him outside of the circle only! I don't know that I will bring our bikes because I think we will spend more time socializing than riding. Thanks for the feedback! I wasn't sure what to expect.

Carol, you may want to reconsider your bikes if you currently ride as a family. You could explore with him quite well on them.
Think of this as a camping week with many friends. Time will be spent with your family and then with friends at different times of the day.

Good point Mynabird! I think my thoughts on not bringing them stemmed more from the fact I am going to have to stand in -5 degree temps to hook them up to our rig before we head out! We also are only going to be in Q from Thursday afternoon - Monday morning and I wasn't sure how much time we would have for doing anything. We though he could ride around the circle while we did the 'chores' that he can't help with. I will check with the dear hubby because I would be more than willing to sit in the heated cab of the truck 'watching over our son' while he hooked up the bikes!

Carol,
The telescope and kite are good ideas too. We get some wonderfully clear nights out here and when the wind picks up it will be perfect for kite flying. And as others have said, the ground is flat and solid in and around the area. Also, I checked the Desert Bar website and there will not be a problem with taking your son there. So there is one more adventure to make sure to add to your list

Thanks Jack for your input and for checking into the Desert Bar! That will be an adventure! The adventure right now for us is trying to prepare for the trip to Q despite a huge snowstorm that is heading our way. The adventure never ends!
