Desert hiking vest.

Got one of these to carry my small camera and other stuff when I'm doing tours thru the park. I also use it for my large camera and lenses when I know I'm out taking pictures. No guns in the park, but when I'm out in the desert, or elsewhere, I also use it's other capabilities.

Nice.
My camera is not compact and I was given this from DD last Christmas. We hike and bike and you can swing it around to open the side protective compartment where the camera slides out. The videos on this site show how its used.

That looks like a great idea also. When I have the big camera I still have to carry it around my neck, only the lenses fit in the pockets. A 400mm lens does fit comfortably in one of the lower front pockets, however. I had to find something that would carry what I needed on various types of trips, and was cool enough to wear around here in the 70-90 degree heat. The vest fits that bill for me, if it was only the big camera, I think you have the better idea.

Those vests are great and along with that I use a camelbak hydration pack that has numerous pockets and pouches.
Mine is usually packed with 2 qt of water, sandwiches, candy or power bars, 1st aid pack, GPS, 2 way radio, rose bowl paper, extra pr of socks, small tri-pod, camera, juice pro leathermans tool, extra zip lock bags etc.
With conceal carry vest you have extra pocket storage in the front.

Forgot to mention for those times requiring extra water, besides the water bottle pouch on the one side, the Lowepro has a flat compartment for the Camelbak water bladder and a slot to feed the hydration tubing through to the outside just like the Camelbak. It also has a pull out water proof cover that encloses the whole pack if you get caught in the rain. We also have two Camelbak packs that we use at times. Now I think it's time to get the vest You can never be too prepared.

In addition to the vest, I also carry an adjustable metal walking stick that has three legs that fold out and turn it into a tripod. The cap comes off and has a very strong magnet, there are replacement caps that screw into the camera that are the other side of the magnet and will hold even my big camera with a 400mm lens. Here's a link, but I've owned mine for years so I didn't pay this much: http://www.amazon.com/Leupold-Trek-P...g+stick+tripod

I have several of these tactical type vests made by 5.11 that I wear regularly. So many pockets that it's easy to forget where you put things, well, some things!

I've had one for years. I use it mainly during the summer. It serves multiple purposes.
