Need to have an overhaul!

Well it looks like I am going to have to have a revision done on my left knee again. This time I am going to try Swedish Orthopedics in Seattle but am having trouble picking a Doctor from the 4 that have experience in failed replacements. Is there anyone that has had any thing fixed with this group?

Not with that group, however I can offer this advice. There is a new process out where they replace the knee from the side rather from the top and it is not only less invasive, it offer much faster recovery time. I would look for a Dr. who could perform the surgery this way.

I think I will have them put in a zipper this time! At least that would cut down on the opening and closing time. I hope this is the 4th and last time it is worked on.

Sorry you're going thru this. I got lucky on the first one, but the other one is going to have to fall out on it's own due to the number of stories like yours I've heard lately. Good luck and our prayers!

Dick, I had an IME about 3 weeks ago and I told that surgeon I would never do the other knee, so I guess I am just part of the 5% that have problems. The IME surgeon also said "off the record" I had a very complicated knee and said it was not a simple fix. So I guess we will have to wait and see what happens next.

Larry, see if they can add a grease zerk while they're there, maybe would help. but seriously, good luck and a speedy recovery.

We are in Charlotte, NC, but for what its worth.

Dr Suprock replace both of DW hips. He only does hips and knees. My mother-in-law had both knees replace. First one was someone else, and the second one (six months later) was Dr. Suprock. The second knee was back to normal before the first one.

Dr Suprock uses the new approach and has you walking the next day on hip or knee replacement. Last time I talked to him, he is also cutting back on the amount of physical therapy, as it is not needed as much with the new approach.

Hope that helps, good luck with finding the right doctor.

Larry,
Sorry to hear you're going to have to have another operation! I know you said it was bothering you and that you were concerned about having to do the knee again. Hope you find a doctor you have some faith in. We wish you the best of luck. Dennis and Mary Kay and the boys.
