71-74 US Army as a Recon Scout C Troop 1/4 Cav as a track commander, spent whole time in Germany. Missed being sent to Vietnam by a month or two. Pulled our orders and got sent to Germany instead. But had been an Army Brat all my life but active duty was not for me. The army back then and the army today are 2 different armies. I live here at Ft Hood Tx and tell these guys that all the time lol.....

I did a total of 36 years with the Royal Canadian Navy.
Joined in 1958, retired in 1994.
Joined as an Ordinary Seaman, retired as a Lieutenant.
Served in destroyers, WW11 Frigate, tankers, wooden hull coastal
mine sweeper, diesel submarines, and also qualified as a ships
diver (SCUBA).
As I jokingly say, I was just starting to like the Navy and they kicked me out!!!
Our mandatory release was at age 55.
To all ex military, thank you for your service, and we are so thankful that both
our countries are at peace and the best place in the world to live.
Have a 20078 2955RL Montana and tow with a 2011, 3500 GMC Duramax, crew
cab, short box, single rear wheels.

klash, Thanks for you many years of service as an American ally. I must take exception to your comment about being at "peace", I don't think the military (whatever nation), fighting in Afghanistan considers us "at peace". I know it is not a "declared war", however, there are still brave men and women fighting and dying everyday. I, personally, pray everyday this thing will end soon and our loved ones can come home. As I stated earlier, my son is a 1st Lt in the Army and we are afraid he will be going over there soon. Again, THANKS for your long service....

I am retired Army after 3 years active duty, a tour in Viet Nam, and then 25 years in the Michigan National Guard. Check out our National Organization for Veterans and Retired Military called:
SMART (Special Military Active and Retired Travelers). It's a great group and we all share a common bond.
