You don't have to go as far South to enjoy Texas, try along the Bay Area Gulf Coast.

Must agree. While there have been lots of fires, our part of the state remains beautiful. Only other place I would consider would be FL, way down the peninsula....but DW just hired a lady from FL, and she doesn't have much good to say about the folks there.

I'd recommend that you have a serious look at Rancho California RV Resort in Aguanga, CA. Just 15 miles east of Temecula, this is a first class resort in every respect and it's midway between everything. Site rentals are half what you'll pay anywhere else in the Palm Springs to San Diego corridor AND you get to visit the USS Midway which is reason enough to spend the winter in this area. We discovered Rancho California a few years ago and have not found anything half as good at twice the price. For instance, we've got our site selected for November thru March at $495 a month. All pads are level concrete; all roads are paved and many rental lots have improvements on them. 4 pools, 4 spas, 2 clubhouses and lush green grass and palm trees everywhere. The average site is about 60' x 40' and all back onto lakes or fairways. One of the nice things about this park is that it's only half full at the best of times during the winter. See you there?

We will be in our winter quarters in Belleview, Fl. Just south of Ocala which is in the North Central part of the state almost exactly between the Gulf and the Atlantic.

Monte will be with us so we can still travel when we get bored.

We are wintering at Desert Gardens in Florence AZ. Another couple of MOC members are work camping there for the winter.

You've got 2 emails Jim. Walmart Supercenter and all the other shopping you can handle is in Temecula ... 15 miles west of the resort. Have a look at Google Maps/Satellite at the park. It's the big one south of highway 79. Just type in Rancho California RV Resort. The one on the north is an Escapee park.

Well if you are looking at staying in the land of "fruits and nuts", I live in Murrieta/Temecula, CA and you can park on my driveway (for a small fee and a tight fit).

But Rancho California RV Resort sounds like the place to be especially at those prices and with those amenities.

Most of the real bad heat is going away and should be decent for the next several months. We've already had our two fires for the season, so it's safe. I think moutard2 is referring to the Promenade Mall in Temecula. DW and I have been known to take a walk there since it's so close to our house. There's also a few Casinos within 20 miles, the award-winning Temecula Wine Country and we are centrally located to San Diego, L.A., Orange County (Disneyland and many others) and Palm Springs, all with 100 miles of horrendous traffic (but I can tell you the best times and places to drive to avoid the traffic).

The answer to your topic's question is, we're staying at our stickhouse in the So. Cal. desert with an occasional Monty trip to RV Parks within family reach, now that the weather is cooling down. No winterizing needed. The price to pay for a decent winter is a VERY Hot summer and dodging fires.

Wow, I am gonna take exception to THAT "lady's" opinion! There are some folks everywhere who are not nice to be around, and we do get our share from all over, but you can't judge the majority on the merits, or lack there of, of the minority! I have lived in Florida for most of my 62 years. My mother's side of the family came here in the early 1800's, so I can tell you I know Florida pretty darn well. It IS way too hot in the summer but winters are great, compared to the rest of the eastern seaboard. We do get some freezes here in central and the northern portions of the state from time to time, not so much in the extreme south. But by and large snow birds have been flocking here for decades for the mild winters. There is a lot to see and do, and a lot of just do nothing available if that's what floats your boat. Come on down and try it yourselves!

Ozz, we will be staying in Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores AL. Beautiful state park that has huge lots, 50 amp service asphalt pads, with a huge pad for picnic table along with a built in BBQ, a new pool, horseshoes, volleyball, basketball, etc. Now this one will get your attention, 19 miles of bike riding trails within the park. Beautiful lake in the park, and just over the burm of the lake is the Gulf. Fishing galore, and many fine restaurants also. Although not as warm as FL, and TX in there southern parts of the state, but reasonably warm. There will be about a month of not so warm weather. But its still worth the stay. Last yr. the rate for being on the lake was $468.00 per mo. off the lake it was $448.00. Heard before we left last yr. to expect a small increase this yr. We will be there Nov. 1, thru April 1.

Dave, we stayed at a RV park somewhere there in town, not too far from Lulu's, we liked it. I have a pal in Pensacola.
I do like the idea of those bike trails! We were there a year after one of the Hurricanes that wiped out stuff. There were piles of trash 20 feet high.

Wow, I went to their site and this looks lovely. Reading their newsletter was interesting.

I was reading through some of their information and noticed an "Association" complete with mandatory rules and fees, procedure for dealing with violations, assessments, meetings, approval process for how you "decorate" the exterior, etc.. Having never had the chance to "snowbird" (but looking forward to it!), I am wondering if this involvement is standard for all parks.
