On the agenda??
One of the most popular features of last year's rally was a day trip caravan to the Beckley Exhibition Mine which is an actual tour on mine car of an underground mine that has been set up for an informational tour (mining history, etc.). It has a recreation of several period pieces (School House, Superintendant's house, miner's shanty, church, etc.) that likewise was very interesting. I am considering setting this up again for the new attendees if there is interest in going there. For the repeat attendees, we can go to Tamarack at Beckley, which is an Arts and Crafts showcase of West Virginia upper end crafts. I will work out the details later, but need an idea of this is something to pursue. Respond via this thread if there is an interest and specify which one. If we get enough that are wanting to see the mine, we can get a group discount. It is located about an hour and a half from the campground, but for those who have never seen it, is well worth the trip. Both sites can be found on the web at www.tamarackwv.com and www.beckleymine.com. Let me know....

Rosetta and I made the trip to the coal mine last year and enjoyed it. This year we want to go to Tamarack.

I checked the Tamarack website and my DW heard the word shopping and immediately selected Tamarack. So I guess our selection is for Tamarack.

We, too, have toured the mine. Tamarack would be our preference.

Hello All - So being the only "newbies" in the group. Dave & I would prefer the trip to Beckley Mine. Looks like we are outnumbered so far. Perhaps some of the others who have not responded yet will have an interest. If not, guess we will be on our own to Beckley. Thanks for the information.

To all,
Tentative plans are for me to accompany whomever chooses to go to the coal mine. For those that are not aware, I am employed as a Chief Mining Engineer at a large scale surface mine in West Virginia and also have knowledge of current underground operations. In addition to the tour personnel, I will be able to answer a lot of questions that may arise regarding coal mining in general. Cathy is more of the shopping type and she will most likely accompany the Tamarack visitors. For any who have never seen the coal mining process and history, I can assure you it is an interesting, fascinating trip.

The mine was great if you haven’t seen it enjoy!
Wish we could go to the rally this year but we won’t be able to make it.
