Sunset Point Marble Falls Texas
Joined some friends for day use at Sunset Point this past Sunday. Several Montanas parked in the campground. We will be there for the 4th of July.
Anyone reading this and staying there?

If you guys are into wine at all, my son Charlie is the wine maker at Flat Creek Estates just east of Marble Falls.
Considering that it is Texas the wines not bad.

We're not there now but have stayed there in the past. Nice park. A very good friend from my high school days lives a little west of there, on Lake LBJ.
Don't miss the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls.

Kroencke,
We are here at the park. Hope we get a chance to meet you.
Steve and Vicki,
I plan on turning my coupon in for my free cinammon roll at Blue Bonnet Cafe. We have eaten there numerous times over the year. This is one of favorite campgrounds. We have stayed here the last five years for the 4th.
Capt Kidd,
Thanks for the heads up about your son. We have visited Flat Creek before with relatives. How long has your son been there?

Ditton to what sreigle said: Do NOT miss the Bluebonnet Cafe. We lived just down the road from it for years and never failed to make the weekly fish fry on Friday nights, the weekend breakfasts, the homemade pies anytime . . . yummy. I can honestly say we never, ever had anything bad to eat there--it's all good!

I'll take one of those cinnamon rolls if they come with scotch tape!
With scotch tape I can just tape it on where I want it to appear.

OK, the Salt Lick sounds like something we will have to try when in the area for the rally.

Steve, we were sitting at the firehouse one day talking about BBQ and good places to eat. One of the Firefighters that I work with lives in Austin and he told me about Salt Lick in Driftwood. I told him next time Deidra and I were in Austin we would meet up and go eat at Salt Lick. Last weekend we did that. There were four of us and we ordered the all you can eat which was just under $20.00 ea. The ribs, sausage, and brisket were great. If you like Texas BBQ, that is one place to try! Let Driftwoodgal (Colleen) know and she said she would meet MOC members over there! Be safe! John Daniels

Heck I can tell you the entire history of the Salt Lick. I was the first waitress, first manager, and painted lots of the picnic tables pregnant with my oldest son. Our family has been freinds of the Roberts since 1967.
A few secret......if you are going on a Sunday get there early and try the prime rib. Unless you are a huge eater the normal plate should more than fill you up. The dessert can be shared and sure go down easy When ordering ribs ask for the small end they have more meet on them.
The Salt Lick is closer to Austin than Kerrville.

All this talk about Sunset Point peaked my interest, so I hooked up and steamed on over there. Except for the heat, which was not allll that bad, it was a good time, in a really nice park. Lots of campers, boaters, jet skis, just a flurry of activity.
For those of you who have not been to the Salt Lick, what are you waiting on, git-er-done. Driftwood Gal- correct me if my memory is wrong, but I seem to remember walking up to the window of a pretty small bldg, placing an order for food and having long benches to set on to eat, or taking the food to the park across the road.

Thanks, John. I've emailed with Colleen since her early days on the forum and am looking forward to meeting her. And you folks, too, if that works out.
How does Texas BBQ compare to Kansas City BBQ? I don't mean which is better, I mean is there a style difference, such as the sauce? I don't like what the east coast passes for BBQ, that mustardy sauce. I like the sweet dark sauce used in KC. Is Texas BBQ like KC or like the east coast?

Steve the sauce will vary, depending on which place you are. It seems, at least around here, everyone has their own formula. Sometimes thick, sometimes thin, some more spicey than others.

We ate at the Salt Lick while staying at the Old Settlers RV Park in Austin (same place?). The meal was wonderful! The RV Park wasn't to bad a deal with 50a power either.
Colleen, thanks for the tips, we will be going back there!
