Well! I dont think we'll be camping in the circle as usual this year eather, but we can still come and visit you guys.
We do like being very close to the show, it's almost walking distance, we can drive over almost to the gate, and park on BLM Long Term land and walk through the wash and were in. I like the dump stations and free drinking water at this spot.
Have any of the users of the high decibel generators ever thought about making a portable sound barrior for that gen set, it would be a lot cheaper than getting a quieter generator, some thin plywood, sound deading instalation glued to the plywood and some small door hinges with removable pins so it can be stacked flat make it look like the hollywood bowl but rectangular, it would get cooling air from the open end.

Don,
Hope to see you folks this year at Q but will all depend on whether I can get my hip fixed before then.
As to the gens.... You'd think something like you describe would greatly reduce the sound..... you'd think that! But it really does not help all that much. Sometimes it even seems as if it actually amplifies the sound! There is just no substitute for the really quite running gens. Several folks had done a homemade structure to help quieten things down. Perhaps they helped some but they were still pretty noisy.
See you on down the road.
Dennis

Hi Dennis,
I hope to be able to see all you guys up there too. and I hope the leg and hip hage in there too Dennis.
I guess if you have seen it tried you sould know, I have a 4 KW Honda EMS-4000 it's about 15 + years old Electric start 220/115 VAC along with a 115 30amp plug. I took it out only once and it being heavy to manuver, and unbearable in the noise department, along with the snow on the TV, I got the inverter 2000 best investment I ever made, when I hit the lottery I'll get another and hook them together, and get rid of the monster. I now use the 4KW at home for back-up in a power outage or a disaster.

Don,
Now that's the way to do it. The 2000 for the road.... nice and quiet and light and gas efficient. Wish I had the 4000 for the house. You are all set both for the road and house.

We couldn't figure out how to quieten down our 4K generator so we just traded in the old 2955RL for a new 3075RL with an Onan MicroQuiet 5.5 genset installed in the front bay. Now we are reasonably quiet. We still religiously observe normal quiet hours. Actually, the old 2955 started down the road of many repairs (structural, cosmetic, electrical, etc.) We felt it was time to upgrade and have been very happy with the '08 3075RL. Hope to add its picture to our signature soon.
See ya at Quartzite

We plan on being there by the 17th. This will be our first time at Q or any desert camping. I will probably have some questions for you experienced boondockers before we get there.

If Sallie and I are in the area we will most likely be in Parker or Bouse. We will stop in for a visit if we are able to go south. We are taking care of Sallie's dad and might have to stay home this winter.

We won't be there this next January as we'll be in Texas. But maybe the next year. As you know, this past January was our first time joining this group in the circle. And we had a great time even though only there for three nights. It's a fun place to be. You all enjoy and maybe we'll make it Jan 2010.

Thanks, Sharon. It's been awhile (too long) since we've seen you two. And the last time we were both on the road.
Nailbender, last year was our first time, too. I think you'll have a really good time. We were surprised how smoothly it went for us. We were there only three nights but didn't come close to filling our tanks or emptying our fresh water tank. Have a good time!

Steve, We are anxiously looking froward to Quartzsite. It has about 25 years since we dry camped, but we don't anticipate any problems. We have learned a lot about camping since then and if we have questions, I am sure some of the experienced boon dockers will help. I enjoy reading your post and was hoping to meet the MOC legend.

Doug, it has been our plan to be there in early January. Got a lot of miles to go and not sure where we are going. We are in NW Oregon and slowly heading south so will let you know exactly when we will be there later.

Doug,
As I stated before, Mel is going to be at work during the times of the major gatherings. However........ it looks as if I may be able to join in the fun at Q anyway, and not by just driving up there for the day from Yuma.
After spending a wonderful few days with a bunch of our fellow MOCers in Oregon this past summer, I'm told when Ray & Pam and Butch & Sue and possibly others, make their regular trip down to Mexico & through Yuma, I'm going to be a stop on their way back and One of the guys will hitch up our truck to our Montana and bring me to Q so I can boondock with the rest of you! So............It looks like you can count me in!
Mel will join us after he flys home, but it won't be until the 1st or 2nd of February. I don't know how many people will still be there then, but I will be. I can't wait! It's going to be so much fun!

Joy, that is great news and isn't great to have friends that will help out just because? We are looking forward to seeing you again this January.
