Quartzsite Update

For those of you unable to join us in Quartzsite, here is a taste of the activities and adventures filling our days. Doug has allotted a significant amount of “leisure time” but there are always fun experiences occurring.

The early arrivals were tasked with laying out the Doug (DHENRY) Henry circle. The idea was to use a spoke design with each Montana’s rear window looking into the central circle. Here we see the “volunteers” painting the lines for one of the 31 parking spaces.

And here is the result with the first five Montana’s parked in their respective parking spaces.

After settling in, we were graced with a visit from the local Quartzsite Police. It seems that we had set up camp just past the “No Camping” boundary. We had not seen the small signs delineating the line, only the large “14 Day Camping Area” sign. Needless to say, despair and rumors of mutiny ran rampant. Since the BLM was going to make everyone (we were not the only ones over the line) move in the morning, we eventually moved a short ways to an legal area where we could arrange the trailers in a (more or less) oval configuration.

Later that night, Doug, at the 20 year old campfire ring, tried to assure the rest of the group that things would get better. But the three lights emanating from his forehead distracted from the message.

We find that there are always “projects” where advice and assistance is not only needed but essential. One was Robbie’s (SIMONSRF) project where he decided this was a great place to install some graphics on his truck. There was lots of help available and best of all, a clean, dry environment (well, it was dry).

And here is some of the other campers who provided moral and verbal support (some of which was even positive)

Of course, Sunday afternoon was dedicated to the football playoffs. Most of the guys were in front of a TV somewhere. Michael (GOFNUTS) provided an outdoor theater venue for watching the games.

While the guys were engrossed with the football game, some of the ladies occupied themselves with intense games of Sequence.

The weather this weekend was terrific,. In fact some of the folks seemed to think they are on the beaches of Florida rather in the desert of Arizona.

We will provide additional pictures as time and activities (Doug does keep us going almost constantly) allows.

You guys look like your having to much fun wish we were there with you. If anyone has a hand held GPS unit you should take down the correct coordinates for next year, just kidding.

Is that Dennis in those shorts?

I see Mel isn’t wearing shorts, guess it still to cold for him?

Maybe Robbie could get a part time job putting graphic on all of our rigs at the different rallies!!

Dick it’s good that you’re looking out for Robbie…

Enjoy your time see some of you in Tucson.

Carl, great pictures and narratives. Looks like the weather is cooperating. Don't let the "Boon-docking Police" spoil your "circle of wagons".

Everyone have lots of fun.

Thanks for keeping the "want to be there" folks informed. Looking forward to the next edition.

The folks giving the moral and verbal support reminded me of the scene in RV where
Robin Williams is dumping his holding tank. Thanks for sharing. Sure looks like fun.
Wish we could be there!

Looks like the weather is a lot nicer than last year. That's a good thing. Has anyone tackled the traffic and visited the big tent?

Hello Judy and Glen,

It has been a lot nicer this year! The weather has actually been almost perfect. If it was just another 5 degrees higher it would be perfect. Oh, well, 65 or so will have to do! It did rain on us the other day but just enough to settle the dust. It was dried out within just a few hours.

It would be better if you folks were here but otherwise it is just about as good as it could be! You'll just have to take your grandson on a road trip next year. By the way I heard some coyotes last night. About 3:30am they woke me up with their howling. Neat stuff!

See you later.

Sorry about the caps. We also picked up several tips about mods to Monty. Not the least of which was a suggestion by Steve, I think, about checking our brakes. We had Beaaudry check ours, and were surprised to find that they were shot. Cracked, chipped, with chunks falling out! Check those brakes regularly!
