Looks like we will have a lot of 1st timers this coming year. Still planning on attending.
Keep in mind we have a Fall Ralley planned as well on the Virginia Ralley thread. Anyone can come to that as well.

We will be there. After spending time on this trip in PA visiting my relatives Carolyn said we will be back for Gettysburg. Weather is nice here right now. We are just north of Pittsburgh on top of a mountain and what a view. Looking forward to coming back here and attending the rally.

Gettysburg sounds great!! We were out there in sept, stayed at Granite Hill just down the road. One week was not long enough to see everything. We will be looking for post to make reservations, This will be our first rally with the MOC and are looking forward to meeting other Montana owners. We always try to meet Montana folks when we see them in campgrounds and tell them about the MOC, most dont know about it hope some of them signed up and are there.

Am I ever glad I looked at the dates for 2008. We will be able to attend the rally at Gettysburg and hope to meet some new people.
We are usually wrapped up in our local strawberry festival the first FULL weekend of June, but that falls the next weekend so it works out great for us, count Patti and Steve in!!!

Count us newbies in. We are so new that we haven't even taken delivery of our new Mountaineer yet ( due mid Jan.) Do we make reservations directly with the CG and if so how soon? Thanks, look forward to meeting everyone there!

We were in Harrisonburg, PA over the weekend so I took route 15 to Gettysburg and went by Gettysburg Campground on the way home. We went through downtown on the way to the campground. What roads would you guys take when coming north on Rt 15 to get to the campground? I would rather not use any of the roads I took if I were pulling the camper.

Cyrus,
Your question is a good one. I live in Gettysburg but never pulled my 5th wheel to this campground. We live on the north end of town and never go through town when we leave town. So, with that said I will do some research this weekend to find the easiest route in from Rt.15. I know that going through the circle is not bad. But the other streets are narrow and a 5th wheeler won’t make some of the turns. I’ll get back to you.

Hey Cyrus, Yesterday we checked out different routes into the Gettysburg Campground from Rt 15 coming from the south….(actually or the north…) The smoothest route without going through the Gettysburg square is the Rt 140 exit off 15 at Emmitsburg, MD (the next to last exit before PA). You take 140W off the ramp and go straight through Emmitsburg. It turns into PA Rt 16. You take an easy right turn onto Rt 116 E and this road goes through the town of Fairfield and then right to the campground on the right hand side…about one mile before Gettysburg.
The shortest route, without going through the square and without any hard turns, is…. Rt 116 exit off Rt 15, Hanover Rd. Go west toward Gettysburg and just after you enter town, you turn left on 6th St. After one block you turn right at the “Right turn, keep moving” sign and continue on this street (Middle St.), which turns into Rt 116 again and goes straight to the campground which is on the left about one mile out of town.

Tom,
Thanks for all the leg work. For me I can see using your first suggestion, the Emmetsburg exit off of Rt 15.
I had looked on my Gamin map software and it is taking the first exit off Rt 15 after getting into PA onto Emmitsburg Rd. Take it north into the National Military Park, take a left on Millerstown Rd then right on Black Horse Tavern Rd to Rt 116. Take left on Rt 116 with campground on the left.
I meant to try this on our way back from Harrisburg but didn’t do it. It looks less congested then your Emmertsbrg exit which has less turns. What do you think?
Thanks again for the help.

Cyrus,
I will try the Gamin suggestion tomorrow (Friday). I have been on those roads for awhile. If they can handle the big rigs that would be great. I'll get back to you after I've driven them.

Cyrus,
I drove the route you questioned. The roadways are all in good shape. No low hanging tree branches. There are some portions of these roads that have very little shoulder and can be curvy. The only caution is the turn from Emmitsburg road on to Millerstown road. That turn is a little tight because of the guardrails. If you swing wide and no one is sitting at the stop sign you will make it just fine. When you get to the end of Blackhorse Tavern road and you turn left on to Rt.116 the campground is on your immediate left. Can’t be more than a couple hundred feet. Good Luck. Hope to meet you at the Rally. Tom

Hey Guys - what would you suggest is the best way from the north? We will be coming in from Interstate 81/83 and then 15 south. How about the best place to purchase diesel in the Gettysburg Area?

bullroc3,
I think Tom answered your question in his Jan 5th post "Rt 15 coming from the south….(actually or the north…)". I am sure he will get back with you on this.

Bill and Donna,
This will be our first MOC rally also. We are new to camping, I started late in life but my wife had done some camping, tents in her previous marriage. Bought our first and second camper in 2006, too small to too big in one year. The layout we picked has turned out to be ideal for us. Maybe we got it right the second time.
Looking forward to the rally and warm weather.
