Love these Texas fuel prices.....
especially diesel. At $2.77 per gallon, it's 52 cents cheaper than gas, just like the ol' days. We had a wonderful drive, watching the prong horn deer (hundreds of them!) and the Texas wildflowers. Hope to reach Benbrook Lake near Fort Worth tomorrow. We've met only one Montana but there were oodles in Colorado. They must have good taste in Colorado.

Judy -
Funny how many Montana's are in Colorado (4 Dealers).
I notice someone is now making a "Colorado" Fiver. Wonder if the premium model will be called "Big Rock" or something .
I'd be curious to hear why the deviation in fuel price. Taxes maybe?

It actually varies here (TX) quite a bit. When we left the coastal bend area about 4 weeks ago, we were paying on average 10-20 cents per gallon less than here in East TX. Thankfully, prices have held pretty well here on diesel. There has been talk in the state legislature of rescinding the state tax on fuel for a few months. Not sure where they're at on that right now. IIRC it would amount to around 20 cents a gallon.

I'm sure the prices are cheaper 'cause they knew we were entering the state, dontcha think??? Well, I didn't expect you to agree! We don't know the reason but we sure do like it. Gas is often cheaper in Texas, probably because of taxes, but it's been a long time since we've seen diesel so much lower.

Talk about cheap, we bought diesel today in Fairview, Tennessee at a Flying J for 2.59 while regular gas was 3 bucks. We paid 2.68 in Arkansas this AM. And it's even a couple cents less just up the road in Kentucky.
BTW-All of the above are Flying Js, the Love's, Petro, T/A, etc were all 2 to 5 cents higher.

We paid about $2.59 for diesel in Texas (April) and about $2.79 in Missouri. In Iowa and Minnesota it is $2.79 -$2.95. We go to the $2.79 place . It is about $3.33 for gas. Guess it's our turn.

Coming from the west where we were delighted to find diesel for $3.09, I'm liking the figures in the midwest.

I guess it's all relative. Just a few years ago diesel was around $1.50 to $1.80 and we would have been complaining about paying $2.77 a gallon. As long as we are paying less than regular gas it doesn't seem so bad. I can never figure why diesel should ever cost more than regular because it's easier to refine.

Here in Austin Texas gas is running 10 to 20 cents higher than the diesel. This is a complete switch as diesel has always been higher than gas ever since we bought our diesel truck in 2005. We were driving my gas Tahoe around instead of his Duramax because of the price difference. I guess we will now be running errands in his truck. Sure hope prices stay the same for our big trip planned in July.

While we were fueling up recently, somebody remarked about the price of bottled water in the store. It was a little over a buck for a 16.9 ounce bottle. We calculated that was about $9.00 per gallon. Makes the diesel sound pretty cheap.

Yea but that 9.00 worth of water will last maybe 2 or 3 days.. the 9.00 worth of fuel will last maybe 20/25 mins.

We do not have to buy bottled water. We do not have to buy other drinks. In order to go to work, we have to buy fuel. I live where there is no public transportation. My neighbors have no choice. Some of them have low paying jobs. Less than $10.00 an hour.
I see in the future that my property taxes will probably go up. School buses need fuel, dump trucks need fuel and police cars need fuel. I am already seeing it in the grocery store.
I also just read BP is closing down a pipeline in Alaska for repairs.
Seems funny, just when the govenors want an investigation.

This may be way OT but we sure do some dumb things that use fuel. I just heard that a lot of the poultry we grow in this country is shipped to China for processing and then sent back here to our stores. The only thing worse is if they start growing the poultry over there to start with. One of our local grocery stores (Sprouts) is starting to lable fish and meat as to where it is grownor caught. I'm sure it is a "health" concern but it is also an indication of stupid energy use. I'm trying to buy local as possible. As we travel around, buying local can get you in touch with the area you are traveling in. Oh, by the way, that probably eliminates trips to Wal-Mart.

Right now in Oklahoma City Diesel is 2.69 and regular unleaded is 3.29 a gallon. I pulled Miss Monty down to lake Texoma and it cost $160.00 for gas one way. I am evaluating my lack of thought on the purchase of the older gas hog 454 to pull Miss Monty. I think I smell a diesel in my future.
