hot trailers
Have any of you heard of trailers stolen to be sold in the gulf region? We have a friend who used to have a nice Coachman TT. He had the unit at a storage lot and went to get it. He discovered that it was missing and after discussing it with the authorities it turns out that his was the 3rd unit missing. The police speculate that they are being sold down south. I keep my unit at home but I know that many people keep them stored. Just wanted to give you the heads up. Very sad that people have to capitalize off of trajedy. Wonder if FEMA is buying any of these trailers.

Haven't heard that, thanks for the information. We have to store ours in a lot because the the homeowner "police" where we live. Wish we could have it next to us, would make things a lot easier but our lot is secured with video cameras so hopefully that will keep it a little more safe.

I doubt FEMA is buying any trailers without proper documentation.
Personally, if I had to store my trailer any where other than my own backyard it would be in a fenced in and locked secured area.
As far as taking them south well that may well be but I know of a number of incidents where stolen trailers ended up in the Adirondacks and setup as deer camps or summer get aways. What are the odds of the police ever finding a stolen trailer in the woods a mile back some private road.

Just a thought... I believe that TTs would be much more susceptable to this than 5vers, although 5vers are not totally invincible, due to thieves having easier access to tvs with ball hitches compared to 5ver hitches. Also, these big Montana rigs stick out in a crowd more than most campers (e.g.TTs), which I would think would tend to make the cuplrits a liitle more nervous when trying to avoid detection. And, unless the thief has specific experience with pulling 5vers, I would think that, pyscologically, this attempt would seem to be a much more intimidating task, relative to just hooking up to a TT and going.
However, just when you think it won't happen to you...

I have read cases of stolen TT's, on another forum a guy had his stolen from the side of his house. To solve future problems with this he poured concrete and added rebar to the pour and chains his TT to that.
I tried to find the post but I can't find it. It was quite a read though.

This is a fenced and secure lot that it was stolen from. Don't know about cameras. I guess someone got a code. I'm sure glad I keep mine at home. My friend was insured and I suppose the storage lot was too. Just can't imagine the hassle and frustration he is going through.
