So what else is new.. Try cleaning the seal, any little bit of Derbies will cause it to leak...try lubricating the seal..you may have to replace the seal and spring. I never know if there will be water in mine or not..

I noticed that mine started doing this also. I thought it may be the temperature change. I took WD40 and sprayed around the gasket and flushed it 5 or 6 times and it started working again.

haahahahahaha - "Derbie?" Took me a second to figure out what you meant. I thought it was a new term.

I think SNFEXPRESS posted that SeaLand was offering a new seal kit, but petro jelly on the seal was the best fix. I noticed mine leaked down it's bowl of pink cocktail when I checked on it yesterday.

Sometimes the valve closes on paper or other debris and a little gets stuck in the groove. The first thing I try is to push and release the pedal about three times. That usually works. Just pull your foot off the pedal and let it slam back closed hard. If this doesn't work, then run a wire or coat hanger around the groove to clean it out. Or a stiff brush if it will get in that groove. But the pedal slap method works well for us. This seems to happen to us fairly frequenly, usually when flushing at night in the dark.

We've had the same problem. We use Steve's solution first of the pedal slap, but if that doesn't work, our fix is to use a round toilet brush and let the pedal up while the brush is in the hole. Rotate brush and voilla, you have a new seal. Every so often, I put a gob of vaseline on the seal too.

This happened to us this last time out. I'm still under warranty and since I'm having the awning replaced they will fix that at the same time. I did everything everyone is suggesting and it still leaked and I had a dry bowl. One of the items in the replacement kit is a new spring that is supposed to put more pressure on the closing ball to keep it sealed.

When ours was new, it leaked, all we had to do was the lubing of the seals with vaseline in addition there is a screw connector on the back of the bowl that when tightened applies pressure to the seal assembly. Ours has not leaked since doing both of the above.

They replaced the seal and who knows what else when it was in the service center in April. No significant improvement..A combination of all of the above will maybe work, maybe not.. It is part of living in a Rv. We are having a problem with ENOUGH water going into the bowl..Is there a adjustment for that???

That is an interesting question Rich that I would be interested in knowing also. Current procedure is partially depressing the foot lever to add the desired amount of water after flushing. A slight inconvenience, but it works.

For whatever it is worth, our tech told us during the PDI to regularly spray a coating of Pam cooking spray on the trap/ball in the bottom of the bowl. This would help prevent a build up of scale residue from the water sitting there. This in return would prevent leak down.

With other RVs, motorhomes and trailers I have put on the rubber gloves and lubed the trap and seals with petroleum jelly about once a year and I never had any problems with leak down.

The things we can learn by reading the instruction manual.Since all else failed I tried that. First check for low water pressure. There is a filter screen on the input water line, that may be blocked or dirty. And If you raise UP on the flush level water will flow into the bowl to any desired level////(i didn't know that)???It is all in the book.....Who would have thunk..

Now that is different. didn't know water flowed by raising up on the lever, seems like ours says to partially depress the pedal (not enough to engage the flush valve system) to control additional water, I'll try that though out of cutiosity. Of course, it will be a few months before I can check it.

Rich & Bingo,

Are you pulling my leg?....You didn't know that pulling up on the pedal adds water to the bowl?

Amazing!

Guess some people do more thinking when they are in that little room.

Robbie,
I never even had a clue that the toilet pedal worked that way. However, unlike Rich, I have not succumbed to the temptation of actually reading the manual!!!!!!!

You guys crack me up. This one pedal toilet is new to me also. The Tech did show me to use my toe to lift the pedal to fill. I am afraid if he had not shown me I would have been in trouble. I'm with Rich "who would have thunk it."

I knew about lifting up for more water on our SeaLand toilet but I don't recall if that works on the Thetfords or not.

I did not know about the filter screen, however.

Bingo,

You just keep going in there and do your thinking.

Some people use it as a reading room.

Some people just go in there to play with the fixtures, pedals and stare into the mirror; to each his own.

Just the other day while in there, I designed a new louvered tail gate.

Don, please let us know what works!
