City Water Connection

I winterized the camper today - pink stuff in all of the water lines. Last year I watched and learned as they did it for me. The last thing the service technician did was to push in on the one-way-valve in the city water connection to allow the pink fluid to flow out. I tried doing that today and it would not budge (never thinking about pressure on the other side from the water pump). I pushed it with a pencil eraser and the pink stuff gushed out and flowed freely. Then it would not stop. I ran the pump for a few seconds thinking that it would reseal itself and it would not. I called the dealer and he said that I did not have to do this as the water would drain on its own. He said that the valve may be damaged. I asked whey then did the service tech tell me to do it!!!

Any thoughts out there about why it will not seal up??

I had that valve freeze once when I did not push the pin in. The ice pushed the o-ring that's inside the valve out of place, keeping the valve from stopping the flow. When I'd fill the fresh water tank it would gush out of that valve. Any time we used the pump it would gush out of that valve. I suspect when you applied the pressure to the pin, the pressure from the other side dislodged the o-ring. A very small screwdriver and a flashlight and some patience and you can get the o-ring back in place. Or just replace the valve. Any rv dealer should have it although you may have to replace the whole housing. I'd try getting the o-ring back in place first.

It happens to me once and I had to replaced all city water connection unit. I tried to fix it first, but I did not have any luck.
Now I remember to release pressure before pushing the valve.

The city water hook-up is the last thing to winterize.
1.Turn the pump off.
2.Open a faucet and let the pressure off.
3.Have someone push-in the check valve and hold it in.
4.Turn the pump on until antifreeze comes out the water hookup.
(Might remind the person not to stand in front of the CWHU)
5.After a good flow of antifreeze comes out the city water hook up,
release the check valve and the pump should shut off when the
pressure builds up. Now your all done till you de-winterize

If you do make the mistake and blow out the O-ring, there is
a way to put it back in , if you find the O-ring, A good RV Tech, who has
been around a while, can show you how to do it. Hope all this helps.
